Summary

Some family secrets shouldn't stay buried....

Music professor Gus LeGarde and his wife, Camille, are looking forward to a relaxing vacation at Paines Creek Beach on beautiful Cape Cod. But Gus barely has a chance to feel the sand between his toes before a near-miss car accident drags him right into the middle of a local family feud - and a centuries-old mystery that's begging to be solved.

As Gus is drawn further into the conflict between the Cooks and the McNabbs - two families with a grudge going all the way back to colonial times - he and Camille keep uncovering more questions than answers. Where is the long-lost Cook family treasure? What's really wrong with Beckett, the McNabb-side member who's the father of young Jane Cook's son? And who's telling the truth about Beckett and Jane's clandestine relationship: Jane's grandfather, surly patriarch Albert Cook; or Beckett's slightly odd parents?

Before long, mounting tension gives way to true danger as people start vanishing. And in the middle of a fast-brewing hurricane, Gus discovers the real secret at the heart of the feud: someone who will stop at nothing to make sure their side wins. Including murder.

Packed with shocking twists, exciting action, and fascinating tales of family lore and pirate treasure, Murder on the Brewster Flats is the first LeGarde Mysteries crossover novel with award-winning author Aaron Paul Lazar's popular Paines Creek Beach series. Don't miss this installment!

From Cape Cod with Love?

Coming from the bayside of Cape Cod, I know the area well. A nice relaxing vacation, a treasure hunter, fried clams and a flying corvette?? Great way to haul you into the beginning of this mystery. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story. The narrator was excellent in his voice distinctions for the characters. Loved the entire storyline, young love, star-crossed lovers, murder, lunacy. Every so often a twinge of sadness as something recalled to Gus, the loss of his old dog.
I'll have to play catch up from the beginning of this series. It sort of reads like a Spenser, or Brady Coyne or JW Jackson novel. A story about someone you may already know.

Greatly enjoyed this book

This book truly stands alone. I have not read any other books by Aaron Paul Lazar. If this is your first look at the series there is no need to read the others first. After listening to this book, I will have to look for more books written by this author.
The characters were well developed and very interesting people. The story line is well written. The vacation turns into a mystery for Gus and Camille. I really enjoyed this story tremendously!

The narrator, Pete Milan did a great job. This story was so easy to listen to thanks to his narration.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

a nice, relaxing vacation on Cape Cod...

A nice relaxing vacation on Cape Cod...Ummm NO! Gus and his wife, Camille, have been looking forward to a much needed vacation in Paines Creek Beach, Cape Cod. The music professor has a penchant for solving mysteries but this time he plans to do nothing but relax. Except, fate doesn't seem to have gotten that memo and, after a near-miss car accident, and saving the young driver, Gus is reeled in to solve a mystery! Lost treasure, centuries old family feud, hurricane and murder all lead to a very busy vacation. Great HEA and great job by the 'new-to-me' narrator. Now I have to catch up on the earlier mysteries!!

You can't judge a book by its cover!

People aren't always what they seem to be; some even diabolical!

The characters are well-developed and believable. Can't help rooting for them to find the treasure.

Pete Milan does a great job narrating.

Strictly a beach book

Enjoyed the setting and the main character is likable. The plot was rather predictable, but it worked just fine as a light beach read/listen. The narrator is excellent.

Vacation Turns Into Treasure Hunt

This is Aaron Paul Lazzar's newest book in the Gus Legarde Series. This is my favorite series written by Aaron because after becoming friends on Facebook with Aaron it appears that Gus is Aaron himself. A wonderful man who helps others, loves his family and is an all around "good guy."

This story is another fantastic audio book to listen to. The narrator Pete Milan has a pleasing voice and does a wonderful job with all of the character's voices.

When Gus and Camille travel to Cape Cod for relaxing month-long vacation, little did they know what they would end up getting involved in. I love a good mystery story and this one is totally amazing. The mystery begins with a scary car crash and Gus becomes a hero saving a young man's life. From this point on..the vacation turns into a mysterious turn of events.

The boy's family is rather disconcerting to say the least. On the surface they appear normal but soon Gus discovers how they are totally not normal. I was hooked immediately on finding out what secrets this family was keeping. I never expected that this story would have so many twists and turns and wonderful and exciting happenings.

Aaron has a way of painting a vivid picture that while listening the story becomes a movie in your mind. I could see the beach, the houses, the scenery all around. The character's become real and some of the character's are old friends from previous books I have listened to. It's so nice to hear about them again in this story. That's one thing about finishing a good book..it's always a little sad because the listener wants to hear more...Well this book brings back some of his character's and it's a joyous reunion.

I could give away the story but it's so much better to hear it all yourself. You definitely won't be disappointed.

Thanks, Aaron for gifting me the audio code for this book in exchange for a review and I am so looking forward to your next book about Gus !!

Different

I loved Gus the main character in this book. I especially liked his sense of humor. This for me was what made me listen to the audiobook.
I have not listened too or read any of this authors book but I like mysteries so I gave it a go.

The narrator I did not like to begin with but as the story progressed I realized he suited the main character really well. I could imagine him in my head and the way he acted. He really bought the characters out and had me immersed in the book.

The story is not a murder mystery but there is a sort of mystery to do with lost treasure. One thing leads to another and it becomes more than just gold that was stolen a long time ago. There is a surprise that I was not expecting at all.

My only negative is that I found some parts, especially after the incident, drag for me, but other then this it is not a bad book.

The series can be read or listened to in any order since they are stand alone.

There is no sexual content or profanity but there is some violence.
