Summary

Tommy and Evelyn Christie were hoping for a break from solving murders when they agreed to host Aunt Victoria and her daughters Madeleine and Elise at their London home in Belgrave Square.

Recently widowed Victoria has returned from France for the London Season, and to mend bridges with her estranged family.

None of them were prepared for the doubly shocking sight of a newborn baby and a dead body on the back doorstep of their imposing London residence.

Tommy and Evelyn face a race against time to solve the murder and the mystery of the abandoned baby before cousin Madeleine's London Season is ruined.

A New Setting

In this fourth book of the series, Tommy and Evelyn have agreed to host some family members for the London season. Soon after their arrival in London, a baby and a body are found on the back doorstep of their residence. Tommy and Evelyn must use their sleuthing skills to solve both cases. I enjoy this cozy mystery series, not only because it is set in the 1920's and in England, but because I appreciate the way the author portrays the romance between Tommy and Evelyn. Alex Lee's narration is great and her different voices for the various characters are delightful. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Characters in a Cozy Mystery

I want to visit Tommy and Evelyn. They are charming, fun, and genuinely good people. Aunt Emily is priceless though I cannot imagine how she manages to drink so much gin so early in the morning, but that is a rare occurrence. Coles has created a delightful cast of supporting characters that I enjoyed through each of her stories. It is difficult for many writers to portray genuine goodness as attractive. Coles has done that with flying colors. What I love in a cozy mystery series is to have characters that I want to read about and get to know in the midst of a difficult situation. This series fits that bill — I do wish the individual stories were longer to allow a bit more time for character development.

Villains Beware

Tommy and Evelyn Christie find themselves embroiled in not one, but two mysteries this time with the murder of a young Frenchman and a newborn found next to his body. As secrets are revealed, the list of suspects grows, making this a great “who dunnit?” story.
The crime-fighting couple of Tommy and Evelyn have become one of my favorite couples. They each have different gifts, that together, they form a formidable pair of detectives. Even if someone thinks they have committed the perfect crime, they will not get away with it when they are involved.

With having read all of the books in the series this far, I am enjoying getting to know Tommy and Evelyn better. In this story we see Evelyn’s desire for a baby, so perhaps we will see baby booties being knitted in the near future or maybe an adoption? The supporting character of Aunt Em continues to provide unknown details, levity, and support to the Christies when most needed in solving these mysteries.

I listened to the audio version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrator brings the characters to life and makes you feel as though you are watching the story on your big screen TV. I especially like Evelyn and Aunt Em’s portrayal and feel this is how I “hear” them when I read.

Thank you to the author for the audio version of Murder in Belgrave Square. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
