Summary

Klarinda Snow is the innkeeper of a beautiful, historic bed and breakfast in Windy Pines, Idaho. Guests come to Mistletoe Manor to escape from their troubles while enjoying the scenic mountain town.

When all seven rooms of the inn get booked on a Tuesday night in December, Klarinda is excited about having so much business, but a little confused as well. After all, her inn normally isn't exactly a destination hotspot.

The guests have barely settled in before strange things begin happening. Is this the most accident prone group of travelers ever, or is someone out for revenge?

Murder at Mistletoe Manor

This book starts off with confusion and turns into murder. I enjoyed listening to this book and the twist in the end was fun to find out.

Entertaining, if a little obvious

Innkeeper Klarinda Snow gets confused when a bunch of guests turn up bearing mysterious invitations for an all-expenses-paid night at Mistletoe Manor. Following an anonymous delivery of cash to pay for the rooms, the situation doesn’t get any less opaque when Klarinda realises most of the guests seem to know each other. When a series of bizarre accidents starts happening, Ms Snow starts to put two and two together.

This cosy mystery is entertainingly narrated by Christopher Lane. The author tells a witty and amusing tale with her cast of mostly annoying characters and though the plot is a teeny bit obvious and features a group of moronic police officers who probably couldn’t find their own backsides with both hands, I really enjoyed the story. Also, in true Agatha Christie mode, Ms Tierney-Bedord provides a floor plan of Mistletoe Manor on her website. Which is nice.

A game of Clue

Do you like the game of Clue? That is what this book reminded me of. It's a fast past who is doing it story leaving a bread crumb trail of clues. Clarinda owns Mistletoe Manor and gets 7 unexpected, annoying guests along with an anonymous package. Most of the guests have a common thread, but slowly over the course of the night they are each being having a fatal accident! But are they really accidents? I loved this quick listen. It's full of sarcasm and humor, quirky characters and it's just a blast trying to put some semblance to the disorder. Narrated by Christopher Lane, you will enjoy an array of voices, some with attitude and a delivery to keep you both laughing and on your toes. Give this one a listen and see what you think!

Murder at Mistletoe Manor

When all the guests show up saying they received a free one night stay and got these special vouchers the innkeeper is a bit confused. But she finds the money for the stay so she just goes with it. As the guests start to realize that most of them seem to know each other and then the accidents start to happen. The bodies are piling up at the inn and the officers can't handle that and the town. This one will keep you on your toes and guessing until the end. Fun listen and nice narration.

My favourite book this year!!!

I actually saw this book being offered for review JUST as I signed up for Audible and was thrilled that one of my favourite authors would approve me to listen. (Thanks to the author for this book in return for an honest review).
It came at a time we were moving house, and so accompanied me on trips to the dump, to and from both houses and also as  I dropped the kids to school (I let the older ones listen in a bit too and have hopefully added to an ever mounting pile of love for books I try to instill in them-one they don't always pay attention to, but this one gave a hugely favourable reaction from both!!) and I was LOST when it ended.
This is a light, very atmospheric murder mystery that has everything you need, an old inn taken on by the brilliantly done Klarinda, that comes complete with employees almost from another era, a group of related somehow,  but the reason for the connection is unbeknownst to most, travellers (an eclectic mix of characters, with one in particular that had me from the off), drawn to Mistletoe Manor by a mysterious invitation, and heavy drifts of snow that mean they are unable to leave and it is difficult for help to arrive (and then the arrival of it gives us some standout moments with bumbling law enforcement!).
The narrator took me a few minutes to settle into the voice of, but once I did get used to his American twang, I found it hard to get it or the story out of my head, with the name Klarinda making me excited each time I put it on. In fact I've listened to some extremely good books since and adored the narrators, getting excited for all the different voices out there, but this one is the one my mind keeps returning to-I can HEAR her name!!!
You might guess from the review how much I loved this book. What I wasn't ready for was just how much I wanted everyone to read it-I recommended it all over the place, beseeching people to get to it before Christmas, as the weather and darkness will I'm sure add even more of a satisfying dimension.
I'm pretty sure this was my book of the year, recommended to possibly the highest level I've recommended any book since I began this blog and the author, who was featured and loved before on this blog is now on my list of authors I will automatically read (have since signed up for her epic newsletter, downloaded some books, bought some more and am reading another of this series on Kindle!). Yes, that's it. Top book of 2019.

Cluedo comes to audible

I enjoyed this short holiday themed mystery. It was a nice easy listen and despite there being lots of deaths there wasn't any graphic details and In fact you weren't even sure they were murders or just lots of accidents. I liked the inn setting and think if this was to become a series then the characters could become fun and interesting as you learn more about them, but it the short amount of time in this book it was more focused on the murders. I did know who the killer was and why, despite the author trying to deflect the suspicion. It was still a good listen.
Klarinda is surprised to find her little inn fully booked at Christmas, normally her slowest time of the year. and the guests are all arriving on the same night. It is only after they have arrived that they realise that they know each other and evenen more surprising is that they all won the stay in a competition run by the inn, that Klarinda had no knowledge of. What is going on? Why would anyone want them all together stuck in one place at the same time? And why would someone send Klarinda an envelope full of money paying for all of them to stay there? It is only when strange accidents start to happen to the group that Klarinda wonders if this is more than just a reunion. With the snow storm keeping the police to busy to really investigate Klarinda will have to get to the bottom of it before her little inn gets a reputation as being the unluckiest inn in the world.
I liked the narrator he spoke clearly and used a variety of voices for the characters.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Wonderful story

What a surprise to have a man do the narrating when a woman is the main character! It worked fine, but then, after a while, all the different women’s voices he had to do made some of them whiney. His normal voice was very pleasant though. I still prefer a woman’s voice when the main character is a woman.

The story itself: Klarinda is surprised to have her B&B booked full, and mostly singles. Which was rare. Very realistic that’s she’s struggling with the upkeep for the beautiful but old building. Running an inn is hard work! I was immediately pulled into the story. How it became mysterious right away… Wonderful! Then it was a lot about troubles at the inn, and an hour in it REALLY started. There was a build up towards it, making sure it never got boring! I would have loved more snooping, more amateur detective work, but it was a good story! And with a good epilogue and I always appreciate that. I loved it!

Not really scary.

Well this was different lol. It was serious and comedic. I enjoyed listening. This was not like anything I’ve listened to before. I hesitated because I don’t like scary stuff but this was not. I’m glad I listened to this book. Narration was great. I recommend listening to this.

A Great and Entertaining Audible Book.

My Review of Murder at Mistletoe Manor by Holly Tierney-Bedord

Murder at Mistletoe Manor is a great and entertaining audible book. I enjoyed how the narrator brought out the interesting and funny personalities of each guest that arrived at the inn for a night’s stay. I must admit I did find myself giggling at the lady who was talking to her dog. Then I thought to myself I hope I don’t sound like that when talking to my cats. The author did a great job of weaving the mystery of why the guests were there with a little festive touch. I also loved imagining the snow outside the inn and how this impacted the guests’ stay.

The story itself follows Klarinda Snow and her friends as they get the inn ready of an unusual number of guests. Klarinda Snow receives a package with money and a note that has her worried as the guests arrive. Later as one of the guests is found dead, she fears the worst and tries to get the police to uncover the mystery. Which one of the guests committed murdered? Was it someone she worked with before or is it the mystery package sender? You’ll have to read this funny mystery story to find out.

I felt for Klarinda Snow as her guests were very demanding considering someone invited them for a free night. But being an accommodating host, she did her best to please her guests with everything falling apart around her. Pierre the cook was one of my favourite characters as I could imagine him as a crazy funny cook, but also standoffish and likes his own routine.

If you like audible books with funny characters, a mystery to solve and a slightly emotional ending, you’ll love to curl up with this audible book on a cold winter night.
