About this listen

“I’ll put you together again. And Mum and me, we’ll look after you alright?!?”

Jackie wants a horse of her own, one that’ll be the fastest on the estate, the fastest in all of Ireland and the fastest in all the world. Mum wants a little cottage in the country for her and Jackie to live in. What they get is a garden gnome that Jackie finds in a rubbish skip; a gnome she lovingly repairs and paints; a gnome she calls Mister Skip. And Jackie soon discovers that with Mister Skip, anything is possible!
A fairy-tale for today from a master storyteller.

My 9 yr old daughter really liked the idea of the story. Really enjoyed it.

Would happily listen to it again

My four year old, eight year old, and I all enjoyed this story, though it's not on the same level as Morpurgo's better known work like War Horse or The Butterfly Lion. He evoked the setting- an Irish estate - in a charming way, and I loved that it was a female protagonist trying to better the sexist boys. Narration was very strange though in that, although it was a first person narrative about an Irish girl, she spoke in an English accent and reverted to Irish for the dialogue. I felt this detracted from the story a bit,and didn't make any sense, as the narrator could clearly do an Irish accent.

Sweet, quirky story

Mr Skip is a great story, in which a kind and loving little girl's dreams come true. Her friendship for Mr Skip, a magical gnome, is rewarded in the most unimaginable ways. A tale of love, faith and friendship that teaches those on top of the world not to scoff and those who feel at the bottom never to stop believing and hoping that things can change for the better! Narrator is a fabulous story teller who keeps you engaged and interested.

A great feel good story
