Summary

Timothy Gandy has kept his lifetime's ambition secret for 40 years. Now, suddenly (if tragically) released from the henpecked tedium of his ordinary existence, he is unexpectedly free to realize his dreams. He will embark on a grand tour of Europe, following in the footsteps of the aristocrats of the 18th century. He anticipates high art, culture and pleasant weather. He never expects to encounter new friendships - and possibly even love - along the way.

It seems that Mr Gandy has embarked on the journey of a lifetime....

Beautiful language

A simple story of man, beautiful vulnerability in recognisable characters.
Simplistic, without being contrite

Lovely

Surprised by Alan’s talent. Really enjoyed it. Didn’t realise he was so clever. It wasn’t too soppy either.

The best yet

I love Alan's books, but this one was amazing - the best one in my opinion! A love story & adventure rolled into a fantastic travel guide, this story totally gripped me & I wanted to have the heart to go on these adventures. A true escapism that I will treasure.

Did not enjoy as much as I had hoped

I chose the ratings of 3 stars as I found it quite boring !! Nice story but just nice being the operative word, nothing special , others Might enjoy more than me , but there was no humour fun or excitement with the story ...I would not recommend to my friends

An amazingly human story

I didn’t know Alan Titchmarsh wrote fiction. This was a delightful novel. And I’ve read negative feedback on his narration but I have to disagree I loved listening to the sound of his voice telling his own story. I look forward to hearing more of his books.
