About this listen
Age 12, in 1984, I was sent to Morley Hall Boarding School in Norfolk. Morley Hall was not a private school, Borstal, youth detention center, or foster care. It was a special school owned and run by the Norfolk County Council Education Department—an institution like no other.
As a last resort, when nothing else worked, and the system had no idea what was wrong, they packed you up and sent you off to Morley Hall. Today, the school is closed, and all its records have been destroyed. For the first time, I am going to write down the unwritten rules that controlled my life during my five-year stay at Morley Hall.
