About this listen

The inspirational classic, More than a Carpenter, is now updated for a new generation of seekers with a fresh look, revised material, and a new chapter that addresses questions commonly raised today. Former skeptic Josh McDowell is now joined by his son Sean as they examine the evidence about Jesus. Is he really the Lord he claimed to be? How can we know for sure? More than a Carpenter offers arguments for faith from a skeptic turned believer.

Since its original publication in 1977, this modern classic has sold over 15 million copies, been translated into dozens of languages, and introduced countless people to the real Jesus. Now with new content that addresses questions raised by today's popular atheist writers.

After just having finished The Case for Christ, this was a wonderful revision. The content of the two books is very similar.
This book reads effortlessly, and the reader does a wonderful job. Thank you.

Another great witness to the validity of the Gospe

I'd recommend this for every Christian and Non Christian.
For Christians there is enough bitesize information yo affirm your faithful and aid you when evangelising to atheists and theists of other faiths.

for the atheists this will get you started on evidence that Christ is who he says he is

Great Read, highly informative and Engaging.

Christianity is not a religion, it's not an ethical idea; it's not a psychological phenomenon. It's a person - Jesus Christ - who is in the business of changing lives.
This is a well documented biography of Josh McDowell, well read by Sean his son, and very clear message of when he met his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, through a dare from another Christian to search and seek the truth of who Jesus really is. We hear it all the time from sceptics, media, world views to prove it, and why does God allow this, and that etc... and still those who don't believe in God, and say there is no God, are yet the first to break His commandments by taking God's name in vain. Listening to this audible (I also have the book) brought joy, and excitement for more knowledge of God. Now the book goes into much greater depth, and proof than the recording. I believe Sean is reading from the 1st edition which his dad wrote. But none the less I can say, if you are searching the truth about God, then get the book. Have a read of it, follow up on Josh's research, you'll find the evidence is out there as plain as just taking a look above your head, on a clear night, up at the heavens above you. The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory. Psalm 97:6

Truly, Christianity is not a religion

More Than a Carpenter is one of those rare books that is both easy to read and deeply impactful. Josh McDowell’s honest journey—from skepticism to faith—is woven beautifully throughout this little book, making it feel like a conversation with a thoughtful, open friend who understands doubt.

What I appreciate most is how clearly McDowell presents the evidence for Jesus—both historically and spiritually—without being heavy-handed or academic. His writing is accessible, logical, and full of humility. He asks the same hard questions many of us wrestle with: Who is Jesus really? Why does it matter? Can we trust the Bible?

The book doesn’t just offer arguments; it offers a personal testimony of transformation. McDowell’s own story of moving from disbelief to conviction adds an authenticity that makes the apologetics approachable and human. It’s not just about proving a point—it’s about introducing readers to the life-changing reality of Jesus.

This is the perfect book to give to someone curious about Christianity, wrestling with faith, or asking big questions about life and meaning. At the same time, it’s a refreshing read for believers, reminding us of the solid foundation on which our faith stands.

Short enough to read in an afternoon but rich enough to linger in your thoughts, More Than a Carpenter continues to be one of the best introductions to the person of Jesus I’ve ever read. Highly recommended.
