About this listen

The Sunday Times best-selling author of Every Dark Corner returns with an exclusive novel celebrating 10 years of Karen Rose's thrillers in the UK. Monster in the Closet reunites fans with characters from Karen Rose's best-selling Baltimore series.

A mother is dead, and now her killer hunts the child who witnessed the brutal crime....

Private Investigator Clay Maynard locates missing children for clients but has nearly given up hope of finding his own daughter, cruelly stolen from him by his ex-wife 23 years ago.

Equine therapist Taylor Dawson has chosen to intern at Daphne Montgomery-Carter's stables so that she can observe the program's security director - her father, Clay Maynard. Trying to reconcile the wonderful man she's getting to know with the monster her mother always described, Taylor never expects to become the target of a real monster: the man who murdered the mother of the little girls she works with at the stable. Nor does she expect to fall for Ford Elkhart, Daphne's handsome son, who is dealing with his own demons. As family and friends gather for a wedding, Taylor starts to imagine a permanent life in Baltimore.

But not if the real monster gets to her first....

Back to Clay Maynard and the rest of the gang in Baltimore where intrigue and mayhem abound.

Clay has been looking for his daughter for many years. He is married and has a step-child who he dotes on but he is close to giving up hope on his own daughter stolen from him by his ex-wife twenty-three years ago.

Daphne Montgomery-Carter's stables is up and running with an Equine Therapy programme and a new intern, Taylor Dawson. She has chosen to work here so she can observe the programme's security director - her father, Clay Maynard.

A little girls she works with at the stable talks for the first time since witnessing something terrible. This lead Taylor into a deadly tangle with a killer while getting to know her 'dad'.

Sometimes a little clichéd, but a great addition to the whole Baltimore series.

Thanks Karen!

Would you consider the audio edition of Monster in the Closet to be better than the print version?

I have only tried the Audible edition because I prefer audio books.
The author writes wonderfully scary books.

What other book might you compare Monster in the Closet to, and why?

These books are similar the books by Mary Burton and Cynthia Eden. The all write tightly crafted thrillers with strong story lines and interesting characters and unique settings.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Many fantastic scenes in the recording. Funny ones like Holly, Dylan and Taylor in the barn. Holly is tiny but mighty. Heartbreaking things like the scene in the hospital room between Clay and Frederick but my favourite scene is between Ford and Taylor in the waiting room.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, the book is emotionally vying from funny, heartrending and scary. The scene in the barn with Holly and Dylan made me laugh, the scene in the hospital where plans are made to find the missing girls and capture the culprit.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book. It is not as dark as some of the books in this series, but that was fun to catch up with people from the other series in both Baltimore and Cincinnati.

Another great story from a fabulous writer.
