Erst im Alter von 60 Jahren veröffentlichte Defoe seinen ersten Roman, der auch gleich sein berühmtester wurde, den "Robinson Crusoe". Sein journalistisches Schaffen umfasst mehr als hundert Schriften, Bücher und Pamphlete sowie hunderte von Artikeln.
