Summary

Midnight on Fireworks Island is Shawshank Redemption, Do The Right Thing and It's a Wonderful Life for middle grade kids.

Midnight on Fireworks Island is a hilarious yet deep and compelling tale. It starts simple and funny but when you finish the last chapter your life has changed. This book is Shawshank Redemption in that it is a story of an unbreakable friendship that develops in a dangerous prison/correctional academy. The boys are sent to Rockweiler Correctional Academy, a facility for boys under 18 and too young for the traditional prison system. Rockweiler is notoriously evil, with punishments so outrageous kids beg to be paddled. For those who not only survive Rockweiler but rise to the top, there's Fireworks Island.

The book is familiar to all middle grade students who struggle to Do The Right Things in the face of peer pressure and fitting in. Against all odds, our lead character Jeremy, 15, does the right thing and when all seems lost, the other inmates gather together to save him and he realizes It's a Wonderful Life.

Midnight on Fireworks Island is a very important book for teens and young adults today. This book exposes the thought process a teenage boy (Joey) goes through when constantly tested to Do The Right Thing. Midnight on Fireworks Island is a thought provoking and soul awakening story for all ages. It is a must-listen for young adults, it covertly addresses, while never discussing issues teens face on a daily basis including: Self-Esteem, Self-Doubt, Conformity, Temptation, Bullying, and Suicide.

Midnight on Fireworks Island is simple yet complex, shallow but very deep, it is a book that will change the life of anyone who listens to it.
