About this listen

The Metro books have put Dmitry Glukhovsky in the vanguard of Russian speculative fiction alongside the creator of Night Watch, Sergei Lukyanenko. A year after the events of Metro 2033, the last few survivors of the apocalypse, surrounded by mutants and monsters, face a terrifying new danger as they hang on for survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro. Featuring blistering action, vivid and tough characters, claustrophobic tension and dark satire, the Metro books have become bestsellers across Europe.

Another underworld adventure set in this fascinating world.
We see the return of a couple of old characters and a couple of new interesting characters the story has a nice steady pace to it.
Also interesting to get more background information into the background that led to the creation of the metro world.
I'm looking forward to metro 2035.
I highly recommend giving this series ago

More Metro

I can't say I didn't enjoy this book because I did, it felt like it jumped from one part to another too quickly within a chapter.

But the journey from different view points expands your experience of this world of the Metro.

Brilliantly performed again by Rupert Degas.

Not as good as the First

Like most sequels it is hard to match the original. Metro 2034 continues to flesh out some of the ideas from the first book but does not really reveal any new revelations. If you enjoyed the first book you should also enjoy this one.

Good but not as good as 2033

It's very descriptive at the beginning and takes some time to start. Hence the end feels very short
But it's still a nice adventure and the book now switches between multiple characters, which wasn't the case in the first one.

Weaker than the first one

Metro 2034 is the sequel to Metro 2033 and follows three characters, one of whom had a small but pivotal role in the first book. Some reviews I've seen for this book state that there is more world-building than story, however, I disagree, there is a story, it's just not very interesting in places. I found myself losing interest after a while so listened to it in smaller chunks. There are moments, especially towards the end where I was more interested to keep listening, but it was hit and miss throughout.

2033, I felt did a great job of creating a dark oppressive atmosphere of living in an underground metro system, but 2034, on the other hand, seemed to lack this feeling.

Rupert Degas' performance of the novel, however, was excellent; well enunciated and easy to listen to.

An okay story that expands on the original book
