Summary

Voor de lezers van Lucinda Riley en Santa Montefiore.

Mathilda is zestien als haar moeder in 1931 plotseling sterft en ze alleen achterblijft. De wereld zit vol gevaren voor een jong meisje. Dan komt de indrukwekkende Agneta Lejongård in haar leven. Agneta blijkt Mathilda's voogd te zijn en ze neemt haar mee naar het prachtige landgoed de Leeuwenhof in het zuiden van Zweden.

Mathilda weet niet dat Agneta haar tante is, maar voordat Agneta haar over haar afkomst kan vertellen, wordt Europa verscheurd door de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het leven zoals iedereen het kende verandert voorgoed. In de chaos zal Mathilda haar lot in eigen handen moeten nemen en nieuwe wegen moeten bewandelen op zoek naar geluk.

Heerlijk verhaal!

Ik hou van zulke historische familie saga’s. En dir verhaal is mooi uitgewerkt en leest lekker weg.
De manier waarop het voorgelezen wordt, vond ik echt niet prettig. Daardoor duurde het echt even voordat ik er in kwam. Erg monotoon en voor mij vreemde intonatie. De meeste boeken luister ik in het Engels omdat die vaak worden voorgelezen als een soort hoorspel. Dan valt dit echt tegen.
Het is dat ik het verhaal mooi genoeg vond om het toch af te luisteren.
