About this listen
The novel is broken up into segments by young Martin's voyage to seek his fortune in America. This allowed the author to satirically portray the US.
Charles Dickens (1812 - 9 June 1870) is arguably the greatest novelist England ever produced.

The reader has received some harsh criticism in some reviews on here; I think unfairly harsh. It’s a vintage recording originally published by a charity for the blind, so any slight stumbles have not been edited out, and yes, you can hear the pages turn. So what? I wonder if any of those critics have ever tried to actually read Dickens, let alone out loud. Some of his sentences are half a page in length, and his vocabulary is both extensive and somewhat old fashioned. I think the reader performs extraordinarily well and I enjoyed his clear diction and his characterisations.
I loved this!

Any additional comments?
I had to stop listening to this because the narration was getting in the way of the story. The narrator regularly stumbles over words and corrects himself, the voice characterization isn't consistent from chapter to chapter, and you can hear the narrator turning the page of the script. Not the best. Not the best narration
