Summary

Imagine how different your life would be if you could spot the manipulation tactics people use against you and know the influence and persuasion techniques to defend against it.

Almost every person will suffer some form of manipulative behavior at some stage in their life, it's unavoidable. Whether it's an overt form of intimidation and bullying in the workplace or more subtle covert manipulation within a relationship. It's much more prevalent than you think. But most people aren't equipped with the right observation strategies to pick-up on it, or the right mental make-up to deal with it.

Katherine Chambers is an ex Stanford Psychologist who specializes in all forms of neuroscientific and psychotherapy subjects. However, it wasn't until she left college life and entered the "real world" that she started to understand these theoretical topics in a practical sense. Over the past 15 years she has built a multi-six-figure consulting business and a family of her own. But it wasn't all plain sailing; she has gone through more than her fair share of manipulative relationships along the way.

In this insightful and functional book, Chambers gives listeners a firsthand look into the scientific subjects she studied within academia as well as a practical real life guide on how to:

  • Spot covert manipulation occurring
  • Understand why people do what they do
  • Identify the warning signs that you are being manipulated
  • Develop practical persuasion and influence techniques to defend against it
  • Master the mechanics of verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Deal with manipulation in any relationship
  • Raise your overall confidence and self-esteem to immunize yourself going forward

not what I thought

I thought this would be a guide on understanding people and how they think but it seems the book is targeted only towards people in a manipulative relationship and how to remove themselves from that situation. perhaps that changes later in the book but from the first two hours I returned the book

Good first download

I couldn't put my headphones down even if I was cleaning. It was easy to understand and information packed. Manipulators are everywhere and we have the power to say no.

Refer to it daily.

Astonishing! This is a magnificent book that is also a game changer. I especially like the reasonable approach on manipulation with numerous illustrations and tips. I am most likely the one whom they will follow so I gotta make sure I am good at this kind of communication. Its truly helped me to see things brighter and to comprehend better about how to save myself against heartless manipulators. An eye opener!

Cool book

As a psychology major, I expected to know everything in this book already, but it takes more of a practical business approach. This approach in my opinion is much more applicable and useful for a salesman or any other professional manipulator. Apply these techniques and you will succeed. I find manipulation to be a very interesting topic. This book has a ton of information on the subject and is laid out extremely well. You will get a complete run down and manipulation and mind control, how to apply it and using various methods and techniques as well. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject.

Straight to the point

What was one of the most memorable moments of Manipulation: A Psychologist's Guide to Detect Emotional Manipulation, Spot Mind Control Tricks of Influence & Persuasion Tactics to Defend Against It?

As for me, as much as I hate to admit it, it seems like I was the one being manipulated. Currently following the techniques shared in the book and looking at my life now, it seems like they're quite effective.

Which character – as performed by Eva R. Marienchild – was your favorite?

My favorite part was when the author made everything simple and made things so clear and concise to make this a very good audiobook.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's almost 2 hours long so it took me about 2 days to finish it.

Any additional comments?

It was a brisk book to read and it surprisingly contains some thoughts that one can use in this present reality. It made me truly stop and reconsider if I ought to converse with one specific person in my life whom I assume to be controlling me in his favor. I simply discovered I have candidly manipulative ways myself as well and I arrange to transform them when I can. It's the sort of book that everybody needs to peruse, and rehash, until they comprehend the genuine universe of Manipulation.

Good information

Helps you recognise if you are being manipulated. Have re-listened several times, especially to my bookmarked sections.

People who buy this may well benefit from listening to

Attached: The new science of adult attraction

Which was uncannily accurate in its descriptions of my avoidant attachment style partner’s behaviour.

Worst book I have ever read/listened too.

paints such a broad and unrealistic picture. according to Katherine, everyone is out to get ya. save your money. really hard to listen to the reader and lots of bad edits.

This is the best guide on how you'll control others. Sometimes we get pissed because others didn't follow what we told them to do and they tend to do it in exchange of something! Well this book will help you manipulate other people. So to be able to manipulate other people, this book has provide the guide we all be needing, including what makes a person convincing, though convincing people is not an easy task. Tone of voice is one of the factors to consider. This book is highly recommended to others. This is fun.
