About this listen

An unexpected letter from her mother threatens to pull Clove back to a life she's left behind, in this thrilling book from an explosive new talent

Clove has spent the past few years meticulously crafting a family life that looks nothing like the one she grew up in. She has a reliable husband, two loving children, a stable home: so what if ignoring the stubborn tendrils of her traumatic past means racking up a little credit card debt or indulging in a light obsession with wellness? Clove is doing just fine.

Or she is until a letter arrives from a women's prison in California—a letter that threatens to expose the violent past Clove has worked so hard to conceal. Soon, she becomes entangled in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with the very people she thought she'd outrun.

Bold, compassionate and full of surprising twists, Madwoman is a story about violence, recovery, and Clove's refusal to be defined by her worst experiences.

Loved this- great story with plenty of pace, twists and plot but it was the depiction of females experiences I’ve not really seen elsewhere which really made this standout for me. How your kids growing up and starting to have opinions are the trigger point. The addiction of luxury health shopping, the insta natural parenting aesthetic… even the emergence of the main characters story from DV trauma felt fresh. Perfect mix of sharp, funny and heartfelt for me. Have recommended it to loads of friends and will try her other novels now.

Great story and an original female perspective

I hate giving bad reviews but this book totally triggered my anxiety.
Even though I felt sorry for the main character I didnt like her. This could be the power of the narrator. Maybe if I had been reading it her neuroticism may have been softer.
It's a sad story, it's not badly written but it sparked something in me thats triggering.
