About this listen

"Just let me love you...."

When Maleen King's father catches her naked in the hay loft with her high school sweetheart, he sends the 18-year-old away to receive a college education and rise above the humble beginnings of a Kansas dairy farm. Now, 14 years later, Mal comes home to run the farm after the death of her father. The stress of a disastrous marriage and being a NYC stockbroker made her long to return to a simple life.

Braydon Daniels, devastated when Mal's father sent her thousands of miles away, has thought about her every day since. Now, over a decade later, he finds himself alone, divorced, and beaten down by the trauma of his broken marriage. When Mal comes back to town for her father's funeral, he realizes the feelings he once had for her are just as strong. There's one little snag, though. His ex-wife is the woman Mal has hated her whole life. And they have a child together.

Despite the struggle to recover from their past relationships, the undeniable attraction between them still exists. Can they rekindle the passion they once had?

Please note: This is a 28,000-word second chance love story loosely based on the Grimm fairytale "Maid Maleen". No cliff-hanger and has an happily ever after ending. Bray is a non-alpha, sweet country boy. So if you like alpha-holes, this novella is not for you!

I really enjoyed the story enough that I'm curious about how this story was adapted from the the original Grimm’s tale (there is a short description in the beginning but that just made me more curious). Mal and Bray were young lovers but her father separated them. 14 years later, they are back together but can they overcome the obstacles that come with time and their pasts? There’s an HEA so there’s your answer! But the journey there was fun, with a good amount of levity and lots of steam. Some angst but given the shortness of the book, any issues were very quickly resolved. I liked that there was an epilogue that tied everything up at the end.

Ava Lucas was good- her male voice was a bit gravelly but I really liked her normal voice because it was easy to listen to with great pacing. Jason Clarke- his voice is perfect and I’m a huge fan of his narration in general; he did a great job with both the male and female characters.

I received this book for #AudioBookObsessionReviewers.

There is nothing better than a full complete audiobook that you can hear in just a few hours that gives you the whole story. This was a sweet book which isn’t the usual from Jeanne St. James but being the professional that she is. She writes an amazing book full of undying love and weaves us a fantastic love story.

Loved Ava Lucas as Maleen, she gives her just the right amount of sass and true grit to hold her own. Jason Clarke is Dreamy as a cowboy and he sure made me smile and swoon.

One you sure don’t wanna miss for this novella.

I enjoyed this story. Her Father tries to do the best for his daughter but breaks hers and her lovers hearts in the process. I loved the strong characters and how they reunited after 14 years. The narration was great I definitely recommend this book.

Good stuff

I wasn't familiar with the original fairy tale, so I really appreciated that the author included a summary before the beginning of the book. That being said, I'd say this was very loosely based on the fairy tale. They were both second chance stories, but the major events of the story weren't at all similar (which is okay). At the beginning of the book the two main characters were already in love, so instead of a getting together story, it was more about the steamy scenes, second chance beginning relationship pitfalls and more steamy scenes (i.e. not a slow burn).

The two narrators were really fabulous and enhanced the story. Jason Clarke is a favorite of mine, and Ava Lucas matched him well. I always appreciate dual narration when there are two points of view.
