But the arrival of their niece, and the girl’s subsequent dissatisfaction, forces a reevaluation of the life these women have lived, finally compelling Ma’ame Pelagie to prove how far she’ll go - how much she’ll do - to keep her family happy, and together.
Voice actor Liza Ross’ sharp southern drawl neatly draws out the multifarious themes of this complex story - loss, hope, abandonment, sacrifice - and her thoughtful performance is chock-full of subtle foreshadowing, rich and engrossing.
