A match made in hell? Devon and Tanner fight like...well, cats and dogs. Which, to be fair, makes sense since hellcats and hellhounds aren't exactly a match made in heaven. Story
It began on New Year's Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world's population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max.

Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family but doubts he can last much longer.

Summary
J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood novels have introduced readers/listeners to a "different, creative, dark, violent, and flat-out amazing" (All About Romance) world.
Now, as the vampire warriors defend their race against their slayers, one male's loyalty to the Brotherhood will be tested - and his dangerous mixed blood revealed.
Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood - even though his sister is married to a member - for he harbors a deadly secret that could make him a huge liability in their war against the lessers. As plots within and outside of the Brotherhood threaten to reveal the truth about Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in his darkening world: Ehlena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him - and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.

Awful Reader
These books by JR Ward on the Brotherhood Series are phenominal and worthy of your time. You will fall in love with all of the Vampire brothers and their mates as you learn about the likes and dislikes and all their idiosyncrasses, but not by this reader. Jim Frangi sounds like a 1950's British Colonial Officer and the story is set in America's Town of Cadwell. The brothers listen to Gangster Rap, Hip-Hop and the like and are often heard to use black american Slang speech, so you can imagine how awful that sound coming from a British Colonial accent! I had bought 3 audible downloads of the brotherhood series and was appalled by the reader's accent, I just couldn't stand hearing him 'Hash' the dialogue in these books and am clueless as to who passed his submission to read for these unique books!! Buy these books to read if your're interested but stear clear of the audible versions you'll be sorely annoyed.

Meandering and dull
This series of books has been on my radar for years, but it has never been on Audible. I was surprised when I recently stumbled across it on here, but was confused why it only started at book 7. I looked it up on Goodreads to find out if I could start at that book, or whether I’d be lost without the preceding books, and I couldn’t really find an answer. So I thought I’d give it a go because you can always return it and get your credit back if you don’t like it.
Sad to say I’m returning this book. It was a rambling meandering jumble. There was the potential for good stuff in there, but it was buried in waffle. So many parallel story lines and points of view going on, which can be very clever when done well, but I just found myself incredibly bored. There’s lots of links to previous books so I would say you need to have read the earlier books in the series to really enjoy it, especially with the world building and character history.
Even if I take the fact that I didn’t read the previous books out of the equation with my rating, this book was still underwhelming. I literally fell asleep many times and had to rewind to where I left off, then would groan at the hours and hours left showing on my screen and it felt like torture to carry on. It seems like they need a good editor to pull it together as it could be a great series I’m sure.
The narrator was ok, but slightly annoying. Don’t know if it was the author’s tendency to shorten words to sound cool, like ‘sitch’ for situation and ‘gen pop’ for general population that was incredibly cringeworthy and unnecessary, or the narrator’s delivery of those phrases. Or both. Whatever it was, it didn’t work.
I’ll get my credit back for this book and I’m off to find my next listen. Let’s hope it’s better!

One of my favorites so far!
This is the longest BDB books at about 24 hours and it was hard to put down my earphones for any of it. I think this is one of the best books so far closely tied with #3 Lover Awakened (Zhadist/Bella) and #4 Lover Revealed (Butch/Marissa). I thought this installment was emotionally deeper then the last couple of books or maybe I just had a hard time liking Phury and/or relating to Vishous. This book is about Rehvenge and Ehlena and had alot of twists and turns as they all do but I felt more empathy for these two characters. This book also delved a little more into John and Zhex and there was quite a bit about Wrath and Beth too. I can't wait for the next book, Lover Mine due out in April 2010. If you haven't read this series you need to start at the beginning with Dark Lover and work your way forward, its a series you shouldn't skip around in as one leads to another. They are very darkly emotionally and highly sexual in nature.

Fabulous...
the last book in the series of the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" by JR Ward, was by far one of my favorites, I loved Rehvenge, his passion, his desires all balled up in a amazing story, I so did not want it to end.... I have all 7 audio books and see myself re-listening to them over again.

Like the books...HATE the narrator!
I enjoy reading the series and how each book connects together as whole. However, I HATE the detached and unemotional reading of the narrator. Some of the writing within character dialogue is a little...off...to begin with, but this narrotor makes it sound lame and weird. I can't believe he was an "actor"...unless it was for a cheesy daytime soap and I wish he wasn't getting a cut of what I paid for it. I put up with it because I like the books and listen to them while i do insane amounts of driving for my job.

Jumpy recording
All of the prior books have had great narration by Jim Frangione. By no fault of his own this recording sounds like it was cut and paste it together. Tone, volume, odd pauses or no pauses were extremely distracting. Because the story is so good you just put up with it because you want to know what happens next but it is awful distracting.

Good story, but...
I’ve listened to every audio book in this series up to this book. The story line is good. The narrator’s performance was decent.
However, this audio production was different in that some of the audio clips where smashed together. It was a little annoying.

Another success for JR Ward!!
I read the book first and thought it was amazing! So much takes place in this book. It includes things about all of the brothers and Lash the head of the lessers is so complex. I love how she doesn't just write about the main character but all of them! I can't wait for her next book because at the end of this one you wish you could just keep going! I had to get used to the narrator but after listening to the other books in this series I'm getting used to him. This story is tied with the 3rd book about Zadist for my favorite. Definately worth every cent or credit!!

Terrific book of the series, terrific narrator
J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood is one of the best of the paranormal romance series. Lover Avenged is a solid book. She managed to turn a drug lord, pimp and murderer into a sympathetic romantic lead with her touching dialogue and interaction between Ehlena and Rehv. There are also two side stories of the other two Brothers weaved in. Jim Frangione's narration added a contemporary mood to this urban fantasy/romance. Highly recommended for lovers of paranormal romance or urban fantasy.
