About this listen
Three days. Three questions. Three answers.
Running away isn't an option any more for Will Chambers. Despite being a linguistic tutor and having every conversational tool at his disposal, all Will wants to do is fade into the background, become lost in the echo of wild heath and harbor. But now someone wants to put his mind on full display, force Will to find his voice - answer three questions, over three days.
All Will has to do is provide three...simple...answers.
©2020 Jack L. Pyke (P)2020 Jack L. PykeThe thing I love most about Jack's writing is the style and flow of it, I have no idea how she manages to create the words which literally grab my attention and hold me a virtual prisoner until the end and sometimes well beyond. Lost In The Echo is no different, when you begin to listen the first thing that strikes you is the tone and pace Dan Calley expertly applies to Jack’s words. It sets the scene perfectly as he leads you into the world our main character, Will. A man who’s so lost in a private grief, it threatens to consume him. Dan Calley portrays these emotions so beautifully and with such care and sensitivity, it draws you into the heart of the story while the events revealed are nothing short of heartbreaking.. All this is delivered with the Pyke/Calley signature, which is now, for me, a winning partnership.
My heart ached as Will coped with the grief and loss he'd endured, while he’s made to face the realisation he’s lost so much more than he was ever willing to admit. This causes Will to hurt, his pain is evident through every word Dan Calley speaks, as he brings the gamut of emotions to life with and emotion with care and skill, while also managing to portray a certain numbness which surrounded Will, locking him inside his own carefully constructed prison. I could feel just how lost Will was, how his soul cried out for someone to take care of him to take away the pain he was clearly still feeling.
Every emotion was real and given we have other characters Elliot and Ryan, who play their parts to perfection, each of them brought to life and given a unique voice and emotions as they laid bare the hurt as they faced the loss in their own way.
Through Dan’s skillfull narration it was easy to see just how lost in his own world, in the echo of what had been, Will and also by association, Elliot and Ryan were.
I won’t give any spoilers, other than there is a lot going on and you may feel that you will never get the answers, but just continue to listen, and all will be revealed. The one thing I will say is have tissues as there were parts of this audio which brought tears to my eyes – thanks Dan!

Jack L. Pyke writes BDSM and psychological suspense extremely well with many different layers. There’s the dangerous element of a sudden kidnapping mixed with the mental and emotional grief, Will, one of the main characters, is forced to confront. On top of these heavy elements, there is also an erotic energy that buzzes throughout the book that reveals itself to be something stronger than just pure lust.
Dan Calley narrates the audiobook and his beautiful and sultry voice is perfect for the complexity that this book requires. I was captivated by his narration, and thought his performance was extremely well done with the perfect amount of energy infused into each scene. The audiobook production was well done and made for an overall enjoyable experience.
Beautiful, Tragic, and Romantic
