Summary

A sassy redhead with an axe to grind…

After catching her husband kissing another woman in the barn, Loretta Sullivan Bailey left Lonesome Canyon Ranch and swore she’d never come back. But when her daughter threatens to drop out of college to become a rancher’s wife, Loretta refuses to let her baby make the same mistake she did. She returns to the ranch, determined to get her daughter back in school by the summer’s end…and resolute on ignoring her feelings for her ex-husband.

A bullheaded but oh so sexy cowboy…

A cowboy from his hat to his boots, ruggedly handsome rancher Jackson Bailey is none too pleased that his feisty - and gorgeous - ex-wife has suddenly shown up seventeen years after their divorce. But despite all their fighting and fussing, the two stubborn former lovers soon discover that old flames burn the hottest. Can they finally put aside their differences and find happiness together…forever?

Not Carolyn Brown’s usually writing.

I have enjoyed many of the authors books but I could not get into this book.....I’m not a prude but I did not see the necessity of all the cussing .....the story would have been ok without it. It demeaned the characters with all the cussing and drinking on every page.

Disappointed

Performance was very good. It was easy to hear the different characters and thaey were consistent throughout the entire listen. Performer has a pleasant tone which is easy on the ear.

Dissapointed with the foul language and poor story editing.

Editing: A few times details didn't match up. I.e. who made cakes for the party (nieces) was one group, who was given credit at the party (sisters) was a different group.

Often the story didn't flow. There were abrupt flow changes without explanation. Sometimes the female lead was very realistic. Other times, mot so much. She never really came across as the strong woman I think she was supposed to be. I wonder if character development was edited it out...

Just found this Author and I’m delighted that she has so many books.

Love her writing, I love the romance, love the happy endings, And most of all love her strong women.

The same thang, the same thang, the same thang:(

What disappointed you about Long, Hot Texas Summer?

What happens when you read the same thang, the same thang, the same thang, Wellll, you get bored. I have listened to several, 8 to be exact, this the 9th one but I don't even have to finish it to know the divorced parents are going to remarry or at the very least become a couple again. For some reason this book seems extra obvious, or maybe I should stop listening to her books. Plus the woman curses every other word, so does the housekeeper in Texas. I don't think I will be finishing this book.

What could Carolyn Brown have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Put at least a little obscurity in the book

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Laural Merlington?

No she can't help what was written for her to read.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Long, Hot Texas Summer?

So far everything after the confrontation when the man comes home with his school teacher girlfriend

Any additional comments?

Dreadful this time, I want my money back or another book in place of this one!

Fun entertainment!

Some like it hot, Texas hot and full of strong willed women. Like most of Carolyn Brown's books. A fun, light and entertaining listen.

Great summer book!

What made the experience of listening to Long, Hot Texas Summer the most enjoyable?

Long Hot Texas Summer was a book that transported me to a Texas ranch. I love how the characters walk down memory lane. Any book that can remind you of what its like to skinny dip and sneak a beer as a teenager is a great book. I loved the story, the characters and the romance. I can't wait to listen to it again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Loretta Sullivan Bailey juggles being a mother, daughter, sister and divorced woman with class and style. She isn't one to back down or hold her tongue. The woman is a perfect combination of strength and venerability. Not to mention she knows how to handle a hot cowboy.

Which character – as performed by Laural Merlington – was your favorite?

Some how Laural Merlington made Jackson sound so very sexy. His voice sent a little shiver down my spine.

Who was the most memorable character of Long, Hot Texas Summer and why?

The elderly cook, Rosie, because she is a senior still running a house and telling people the truth. I love her spunk and her wit. She reminds me of a perfect grandmother or housekeeper.

Any additional comments?

Long Hot Texas Summer was a fun book that I couldn't put down. Its hard to get the southern accent and feel just right. Miz Carolyn Brown and narrator Laural Merlington did a great job. Its a book that I will listen to again and again. Every time I listen to it, I'll feel like I'm revisiting Texas, my youth and my present.

Don’t bother

I have read other Carolyn brown books that were fun and enjoyable. I did not like one character in this book. There was also a fair amount of unnecessary swearing.
