Berger paisible et obstiné, toute sa vie il a planté des arbres, des milliers d'arbres et, au fil des ans, la région est redevenue verdoyante, fraîche, parfumée. Jean Giono a imaginé qu'au cours d'une de ses promenades, il avait rencontré ce personnage extraordinaire. C'est l'un des textes dont il était le plus fier. Un grand texte simple et généreux, un portrait émouvant et un hymne à la nature.
