Alexandre Pouchkine (1799-1837) est considéré comme étant le poète national russe et le père fondateur de la littérature russe moderne. Pour beaucoup de ses compatriotes, il est encore plus important que des auteurs de renommée mondiale tels que Tolstoi, Gogol ou Pasternak. Il est connu pour avoir créé un style narratif mêlant drame, romance et satire. Son nom est la quintessence de la littérature russe. Parmi ses travaux les plus connus figurent Eugène Onéguine, La Fille du capitaine et Rouslan et Ludmila.
