Summary

A gripping, suspenseful crime novel.

Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are members of the elite: Las Vegas Metro PD, one of the toughest and most respected law enforcement agencies in the United States. In the middle of a city with two million residents and 43 million annual visitors, they’re hunting for a killer.

The crime: audacious.

At the heart of a glamorous Las Vegas hotel, in front of hundreds of witnesses and under the lenses of countless video surveillance cameras, a young girl is brutally murdered. What promises to be a quick and easy investigation soon becomes a nightmare. The most recorded crime in Vegas is missing one key protagonist, the killer.

The forensics: stupefying.

A crime-scene fingerprint unleashes dozens of unsettling questions instead of providing answers. Was this a murder for hire? In the politically-charged case, the scenario seems plausible; the victim’s secret life could’ve been the obstacle in an ambitious politician’s path. As the investigation unspools the well-concealed secrets surrounding the girl’s life, Baxter and Holt attract the attention of someone desperate to keep history’s terrible secrets buried.

The truth: shocking.

A testimony from beyond the grave turns into a death warrant for the two unrelenting detectives. While they expose a connection with the victim’s distant past that could hold the key to catching her killer, they must learn to rely on each other to survive.

Two mavericks don’t make a team. Baxter and Holt trust each other with their lives, only not with their darkest secrets.

Fans of James Patterson, David Baldacci, Karin Slaughter, and Robert Dugoni will be engrossed in this un-pause-able police procedural that will keep you listening until the break of dawn.

Fabulous story, mostly great narrator - but DREADFUL English accent!

A fabulous story that's really brought to life by the narrator, with different voices they allow you to differentiate between characters during conversations. However, the English accent of the female protagonist is DREADFUL, nothing like a real person's voice, and very disappointing. The only let-down in an otherwise excellent listen, so don't let it put you off the story if you like a good murder-mystery with lots of twists!

GOT ANSWERS THEY DIDNT EXPECT

LAS VEGAS GIRL by Leslie Wolfe
This should come with a warning, the dangers of riding in elevators. Once again we are caught into the plot that Leslie has woven for us. Detective Baxter has one last attempt to redeem herself. The case is of a young woman, crime is on a video, shows a man in a hoodie. The mother has 2 daughters, one who makes her proud, and the deceased, was an embarrassment .Baxter and her partner were told to play by the rules, or else. That wasn’t how they got the answers, the answers gave them another side of the victim. This was the best I have by Leslie, you could feel the pulse, of how Baxter and Holt worked. Hope there will be more with them in coming books. The audio by Susan Marlowe brought this story plot to life, and readers will definitely be glad they listen to it.

All bets are off when your a bad guy in Las Vegas

I really enjoyed this book so when it was released as an audiobook I just had to add it to my collection. Even though I still enjoyed it I didn't really take to the narrator mainly because she was playing a British cop and the accent she used was good as you knew who was talking but took some getting used to (mainly because being British I don't think we sound like that- I could be wrong as who really listens to themselves talk). It won't put me off listening to the story again tho.

The story is set around two cops, who have to prove not only to there boss but to themselves that they have what it takes to be a Vegas cop and solve the highly politically charged murder case of a young woman. What lenghts will they go to make sure the bad guy's go to jail and stays there. When new evidence leads them in a different direction and a pervious unsolved case things start heating up.

I don't think this book had as many twist and turns as some of the author's other books but was still a very enjoyable tale. and I will be looking out for the next book featuring the heros of this book, as it will be interesting to see how ther parternship develops.

Exceptional!!

This is a great series. I had trouble putting them down. I hope Leslie Wolfe adds more to this series. I normally don't buy books and mainly just read the free ones. These were definitely worth buying. I'll probably reread them.

Really exciting and suspenseful story!

Laura Baxter is a LA detective during the day but at night you won't know what she might have up her sleeve. Jack Holt is her new partner and he has secrets of his own. This story takes us into the streets of Las Vegas and the crime that happens there. When a young woman loses her life in front of a hotel full of people it is just the beginning of the suspense and secrets that abound especially among the wealthy. I really enjoyed this book even though it did have some swearing, I just chose to overlook it. This book had a different narrator than the first book I listened to and it took me a while to warm up to her as much as the other one but still very well done! I received a free code for this book from Audiobooks Unleashed to listen to on Audible. This review is my own honest opinion

Terrible accent and pronouncing of contractions

Worst audiobook reading I’ve ever listened to. Narrator pronounced every contraction “dn’t” without the d. So it sounds like dinnint coulnnint woulnniny shoulnnint. I was coming out of my skin.
The British accent was so bad they should have left it out! Yikes.

This is the first book I have read by Leslie Wolfe

This is the first book I have read by Leslie Wolfe. It was a good read and well written. The book kept me engaged, but not necessarily on the edge of my seat in suspense. I do plan to read a few more in this series, as it was enjoyable.
