Over the past 100 years, gulls have been brought ashore by modernity. They now live not only on the coasts, but in our slipstream following trawlers, barges, and garbage trucks. This book is fascinating, poetic and erudite on the whole when it sticks to the subject of the modern natural and cultural history of gulls. However it loses its way towards the end when it deviates into non-sequitur autobiographical ramblings on nightjars, Madagascar and the nature of mortality

I had to turn the speed right down to make it a more pleasant listen but there’s a real struggle to get into Tim’s rhythm, tone and speed.

Sadly better as a printed book.
