Su obra, mayormente en narrativa, ha obtenido numerosos premios entre los que se cuentan el Nadal, con El niño de los coroneles (2001); el Anaya, con Cielo abajo (2005); el Gran Angular, con Zara y el librero de Bagdad (2008); el Primavera, con Todo el amor y casi toda la muerte (2010) o el Biblioteca Breve, con La isla del padre (2015).
