Summary

En este bellísimo relato se narran las aventuras que vive Ulises navegando por el mar Mediterráneo. Enormes tempestades azotan su nave porque el dios del mar, Poseidón, no le quiere nada. Sin embargo, le protege la diosa de la sabiduría, Atenea. Mientras tanto, en su tierra, la isla Ítaca, le están esperando su fiel esposa, Penélope, y su hijo Telémaco, que irá en busca de noticias suyas. Pero también se han instalado en Ítaca los odiosos pretendientes de Penélope, que quieren convencerla de que su marido ha muerto y que se pasan el día en el palacio del héroe comiendo y bebiendo.

Aunque nada se sabe con certeza, parece que hacia el siglo VIII antes de Cristo, un juglar griego llamado Homero, del que se dice que era ciego, compuso esta historia, la Odisea, que cuenta las aventuras que vivió Ulises desde que se marchó de Troya acabada la guerra, hasta que llegó, veinte años después, a su patria, Ítaca. La Odisea es un poema maravilloso, que fue compuesto hace muchos, muchísimos años: ¡casi tres mil!
