Una farfalla volteggia, leggiadra, nei pressi di un vasto campo agreste nell'aria tiepida di primavera. Proprio lì vicino c'è un lago dove solitamente nuota un ciclopico coccodrillo: arrogante, arcigno, dalla cattiveria stucchevole, sempre pronto a cercare ogni scusa per azzuffarsi col primo che gli capiti intorno.
La farfalla rappresenta un'occasione propizia per esprimere tutta la sua insolenza e malvagità. La sua idea è di stuzzicarla col fine di farne una libagione. La farfalla (saggia e buona com'è) non vuole però offrirsi in sacrificio al suo carnefice; pertanto, agirà d'astuzia per sfuggire ed aggirare il malvagio proposito del coccodrillo...
