About this listen

Since the Renaissance, Julius Caesar has been idolized as a superman. There is no doubt that Caesar was an extraordinary man. But as General Fuller points out, Caesar was more extraordinary for his reckless ambition, matchless daring, and ruthless tyranny than for his skills as a military commander. Caesar continually had to extricate himself from the results of mistaken judgments. His unpremeditated Gallic conquest was just one of Fuller's many examples.

In telling Caesar's history, Fuller illuminates a century of Roman history as well, bringing to life Caesar's wars, his armies, his equipment, and his methods. Brilliant in design and impressive in scope, Julius Caesar clarifies how the military, political, and economic aspects of the Roman Republic worked together to produce a man whose name has come down to us as a synonym for absolute authority.

A detailed and analytical review of Caesars life! Perfect for anyone who wants to know the whole story of the man and how he came to power.

Brilliant

Rather than a biography of Julius Caesar, I would regard this as more an account of a series of campaigns and battles.

The detail.

The narration is mind-numbingly bad. Frederick Davidson may have many skills but the narration is not one of them. But more than that I would love to know who made the decision having heard the man read thought that this man was good to do it.
For me, it was very hard to take in the information.
It is part of Audible's Plus range and free but to me still needs quality checks.

Terrible Narration!

I cannot say much about the content of this book as I found the narrator’s voice so grating and appalling that I managed to listen to 2 minutes and couldn’t continue, awful. I have a classics and ancient history degree so I probably wouldn’t have had an issue with the subject, it’s just horrendous as an audio book with the narrator they have used

Awful to listen to
