Summary

John Finnemore's Double Acts Series 1 is the winner of the Writers Guild Award for Best Radio Comedy and the Comedy.co.uk awards for Best Radio Sketch Show!

The complete fifth series of BBC Radio 4's award-winning sketch show, written by and starring the writer of Cabin Pressure.

John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme has won a host of awards, including the 2015 BBC Audio Drama Award for 'Best Scripted Comedy with Live Audience'. Written by and starring John Finnemore, this fifth series of the hit show returns with more witty wordplay and laugh-out-loud sketches.

These six episodes include an unlikely wager, a troubled bluesman, a rip-roaring adventure on the high seas, a new approach to the News; and, well, since you asked him for a tale of espionage....

In addition, the voices in John's head push him to the tipping point, we look back at a career in accounting, hear of an over-rated experience and, we're sorry to say, Patsy Straightwoman returns with an interview sketch.

John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme also features Margaret Cabourn-Smith, Simon Kane, Lawry Lewin and Carrie Quinlan. Duration: 3 hours.

Incredibly satisfied with this

I have listened to all of John Finnemore's now that I have completed this one, and sometimes I would laugh so hard that I passed out, anyway, good job, keep going.

Regrettably weak compared to his other series

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I thoroughly enjoyed I think the middle of this series, 3,4,1 or 2 but this is very lacklustre, eliciting barely a laugh, sadly. Seems very repetitive if you have heard the above mentioned and not recommended - go for the middle series, a couple of which are excellent and original by the best of classical British standards.

Has John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme, Series 5 put you off other books in this genre?

No

How could the performance have been better?

The sketches were weak and often rather silly

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Very few funny bits.

Any additional comments?

Middle Finnermore Series were excellent.

By far the best of Radio comedy

Everyone I have recommended this too has loved it, it is charming funny, relatable extraordinarily inventive and has a sketch for everyone from lemmas and fairytales to politics and psychotherapy! I can not stress enough how much fun this is.

Very disappointing

Being as much of a John Finnemore fan as I am, it really saddens me that this series was such a let down compared with the first four series, which had previously helped me through a very difficult time. The word play was there, but it was forced. The 'human condition' commentary & satire was there, but it was so glaringly obvious from the beginning of most sketches where they were headed that it rendered the whole thing mostly pointless. Many sketches ran *painfully* long, and reached new, and irriating levels of 'meta'. John's performance itself was still excellent, he's still hilarious regardless of the script, but some of the others seemed bored. One for dedicated fans only, I think.

Very funny

Very funny. John Finnemore's writing, and the cast's performance is A+. I'll wait a while and listen to the series again when the negative news reports get to me. One good thing about being human . . . we can smile and laugh.

Insanely enjoyable

The series 5 exeeded my high expectations and the clever wordplays were a treat. I would absolutely recommend this.

I love all his sketch shows

They're great! I've fully listened to this one at least three times now, minimum. Love Finnemore!
