Dire
Read the one star reviews - everything they say is true. ‘Boring’ doesn’t even begin to describe the sheer mundanity of the dreary prose in this book. When I got to the horrible boringness of a recipe posing as a story I gave up. Don’t buy it!

Absolutely not beginner friendly
Wow this was a struggle. Not easy listening as it was not only absolutely mind numbingly boring, the narration was terrible. The level is far too high to be beginner friendly as the dialogue was extremely fast with high level vocabulary and grammar structures. The Japanese voice actor was fine *though a bit fast* the English voice however was terrible. I'm unsure if it was a machine or an actual person, but it was unnaturally janky and highly irritating, as they interrupted the Japanese too frequently and would pronounce words oddly. The stories also weren't stories at all but more like a laundry list of mundane topics like recipes and how to use the channel tunnel. I usually fall asleep to Japanese stories but I couldn't get into this at all. It irritated me so much that I had to turn it off. I'm definitely not one to complain usually but whoever created this truly needs to rethink their teaching strategy as this is not a helpful resource for beginners whatsoever.

Disappointing
Firstly, the number of 5 star reviews all posted on the same date in April 2019 should be cause for suspicion. There's nothing "captivating" about these short stories, in fact it's misleading to even call them stories. The content includes things like recipes, directions given by a satnav and an excruciatingly detailed account of two people buying clothes. I've found myself laughing out loud at how mundane some of the narrative is.
To be fair, there is some reasonable listening practice to be salvaged here but don't expect to be drawn in by the narrative at all.

Idea is good but the content is disappointing
When I purchased the product I actually expected what the title says: Japanese Short stories. Instead I get a mundane rundown of a life of an ordinary woman in England. The content doesn't even have a storyline! It is so boring I really struggle to stick to it. To say the stories are "Captivating" is not just misleading, it is almost a betrayal!

Not for beginners
It seems good, but it's not for beginners. I have been studying Japanese for years, (am between N5 and N4 level) and this is too hard for me. Way too much unfamiliar vocab and grammar structures. Look forward to the day I reach 'beginner' level and this book is of some use to me!

Dull
The “story” is a diary of everyday middle class British life. Absolutely nothing of interest happens. It’s really 30 diary entries/chapters. 50% of the running time is the same text repeated without English translation.
