About this listen

Charlotte Brontë's much-loved masterpiece is reimagined through the voice of Juliet Stevenson, who succeeds in capturing all the wit and charm of the original novel in her retelling.

The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.

A book I've always wanted to read but never had the time. This audiobook is extraordinary. Bronte was an amazing writer. I'm so pleased I finally had a chance to listen to this.

Hard to believe this was written so long ago. Yet at the same time very interesting to see how things were then, straight out of the horse's mouth. Hard to believe one so young & so isolated could be so profoundly knowing, sensitive to differing human personalities, worldly insights & human motivations. How clever, intellectual & what genius these sisters were. I loved the insights so much I have bought a hard copy to keep. Of course the narrator is too a genius whose narration abilities are beyond supernatural.

So profound in its exploration of the human condition
