An island in the Caribbean. A centuries-old secret. A life adventure awaits. . . Discover the latest tale of friendship, courage and romance from the Sunday Times bestselling romance writer.

Dominica. A beautiful remote island where the sun shines and the living is easy.

And where Cass goes to photograph a rare stone carving as a favour to her father.

With her is Ranulph, a deeply attractive, much-travelled journalist, who offers to help Cass with her quest.

But Dominica has just been hit be a severe hurricane, and Cass and Ranulph are spending all of their time helping the local community.

Cass knows she must not fall in love with him… He is just looking out for her. He’s being kind.

There is no way he could be even the slightest bit interested in her. Could he?

An interesting storyline, different from Katie Ffordes usual, however I found it a bit ‘twee’ and predictable in places. Also Austin was too much of a caricature for me and I felt it unbelievable that someone wouldn’t have called him out on such behaviour.

Read beautifully I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t quite as well written as usual.

A bit ‘twee’

I have been reading Katie Fforde's novels since she was first published back in 1995. Her characters are always believable and set in places we can imagine, stories that are easy to read but with enough drama to keep you interested.

In 'Island in the Sun' the novel opens with the female protagonist Cass, a young and somewhat naive young woman, visiting her father in his remote Scottish home for the first time. It is here she meets Ranulph and they find themselves travelling to Dominica together to assist in a project for a friend of Cass's father. Cass and Ranulph's relationship is something of a slow burn due to the circumstances they face over the coming months. Will love overcome the difficulties?

In conclusion this was easy, relaxing, listening. It made a pleasant change from reading and I recommend this story to all fans of romantic escapism and Katie Fforde.

captivating

I enjoyed the story in general, learned about Dominica and always love a happy ending. I found Cass to be far too reticent about expressing indignation with the American, (whose name I've forgotten) and also much too stupid to be believable on numerous occasions. I have read many of Katie Fforde's other books and not noticed this before. Perhaps because it was read out loud, I couldn't skip the annoying bits? Or the story had to be longer and was padded out a bit too much. I hate being negative so apologise for the criticism.

Kept my attention to the end

Maybe this story would have been more believable had it been set in an earlier era, but I found the characters behaved in a very implausible way throughout. The heroine was also somewhat annoying rather than endearing in the naive way she was portrayed. As a follower of this author I was disappointed.
