Story
In psychology, attachment theory explains adult relationships through the lens of parent-child relationships. According to this theory, we develop attachment patterns with parents and caregivers in early childhood that influence how we relate to others as adults. Your attachment styles can also determine the type of person you gravitate to in relationships, since you are looking to have your needs met in a certain way. This can sometimes result in destructive relationships if partners are unable to have their needs met in the way they prefer.

The best book I've read on the subject yet!
Would you try another book from Gina Pera and/or Pam Ward?
Absolutely.
What could Gina Pera have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
As with all audio books, a pdf downloadable reference would be nice.
What didn’t you like about Pam Ward’s performance?
Pam is one of the best narrator's out there as she is clear to understand, uses appropriate intonation at the right times and keeps the material interesting and moving.
Any additional comments?
I've know for about 6 years that I have ADD. However, until now, I have never really understood the true significance of ADD throughout my life and the impact on others. Gina's book has helped me see that ADD is likely a significant piece if not the smoking gun underneath years and years of anxiety, depression, poor performance, great performance, outbursts, confusion, lack of direction. low self esteem, great ideas (according to me) and, well, you know the list. It's clear I haven't always been treating the appropriate issue.
Thank you Gina for all the research and effort it took to produce your book and thank you for providing a little clarity to a rather unfocused mind. Wow, what a difference it would have made 40 some years ago when us 40+ somethings were in grade school!
A must read for those with ADD, think they might have ADD or are living with someone who has ADD.

Very insightful!
14 hours?! My friend recommended I read this, but coming in at 14 hours long I couldn't make myself download it much less start it. Then after weeks of kindly suggesting and gentle reminders, one day she exasperatedly exclaimed, "Read the damn book!" Having just been diagnosed with ADD at age 41 this book was tremendously helpful in meeting myself for the first time. I laughed out loud several times in the first section as I saw myself so clearly in the case study stories. The middle section was a little discouraging (and humbling) realizing the effect my decisions and behavior have had on my family and relationships. The last section was a bit much to take in with all the drug names and treatment options, so I'll need to listen to it again. Overall, I'm so delighted I read it (at 1.45 speed :) ) and feel hopeful that with some behavior skills from a trained professional in my tool belt and a proper dosage of medication, I will be able to more fully utilize my best self more often. This feels so hopeful! Now, stop reading reviews and buy the damn book already!

Not a fluffy treatment of ADD/ADHD
Very difficult topic, well documented and expanded. However, after a few hours it felt like a hammer hitting me on the head, I was waiting for some "good" news, but I feel more discouraged about my condition the more I listen. I'm sure the author is not intending to do so, but to inform well so we know what we're dealing with. I'll be looking for encouragement in connected fields of therapy and personal development. Still, I recommend this book.

Negative VENT. Not helpful.
The author succeeds in normalizing the struggles, but does so in a vent sort of way. I can see it causing more disconnect in an already struggling relationship. There are lots of good books and therapists out there. Keep searching. Hallowell and Orlov are helpful and real.

This book is mis-titled...
It should be "It's you and your Adult ADD: Divorce the bum before he ruins your life!" The author has an extremely negative and pessimistic attitude toward being married to an adult with ADHD. I recommend Melissa Orlov's and Dr. Edward Hallowell's books instead.

Useful examples of the ADHD partnership challenges
I liked how the book had taken common and typical examples of scenarios that arise. The book helped me place my thumb on the situations I would see with my partner.
