For years, biblical counselor Darby Strickland has served women in oppressive marriages. Now she writes to anyone who wants to help, regardless of their level of experience.

You will learn how to identify the toxic entitlement that drives abusive behavior and to better understand its impact on victims - including children who are raised in a home with domestic abuse. Ultimately, you will become equipped to provide wise and Christ-centered counsel and to empower and advocate for victims while navigating the complex dynamics of oppression in a marriage.

I have a friend who was asked to read this book to help him understand how he's abusing his wife and I decided to read it at the same time as him

It instead shows his wife to be the abuser in the relationship (control over everything, everything has to be done her way, she lashes out, question where he's been and why things have taken so long etc).

The example situations of abusive relationships were all good strong examples of abuse but this book could interpret most marriage conflict as abuse.

She claims 1/4 relationships in the church is abusive too which shows how broad her definition is.

For female victims of a abuse

I appreciated the learnings from the book. The only issue I have is that it feels somewhat dismissive towards male victims. This should have been noted in the synopsis.

It would have been much appreciated to have this additional perspective. Regardless this provides a good basis for all.

Very useful book! But only aimed at female victims.
