Herman Bang (1857-1912) er én af de vigtigste moderne danske forfattere. Han er især kendt for sin impressionistiske skrivestil samt sin skildring af kvindelig seksualitet og kærlighed uden for ægteskabet. Hans forfatterskab tæller store romanklassikere som" Stuk" (1887) og "Haabløse Slægter" (1880) samt novellen "Ved Vejen" (1886).
