 Rakugo is an art of humorous storytelling that has been around for 400 years, since the Edo period. It is performed in an entertainment hall known as a "yose".

落語は江戸時代から400年以上にわたって続く笑いの話芸で、寄席と呼ばれる演芸場で演じられます。
落語家は、着物を着て舞台の上の座布団に座り、客席に向かって面白い話を披露します。
話の内容は、主に江戸時代の日常生活に関する滑稽話などです。
落語家は手ぬぐいと扇子をいろいろなものに見立て、対話形式で、一人で何人もの登場人物を演じます。
話の中に冗談やダジャレが多く出てくること、話の最後に＂オチ＂がつくのが、落語の特徴です。
落語は、東京や大阪に多くある寄席で毎日公演が行われ、テレビで放送されることもあります。
