Story
If there is one thing that most of us aspire to, it is, simply, to be happy. And yet attaining happiness has become, it appears, anything but simple. Having stuff - the latest, the newest, the best yet - is all too often peddled as the surefire route to happiness. So why then, in our consumer-driven society, is depression, stress and anxiety ever more common, affecting every strata of society and every age, even, worryingly, the very young?

Totally mesmerising
- By archimike89 on 16-02-17
Summary
The latest adventure from best-selling author Ben Fogle explores what we can learn from nature about living well and living wild.
What can rowing across the Atlantic teach us about boredom and about patience? Can coming down from Everest take more resilience than climbing up in the first place? How can the isolation of the South Pole highlight what’s most important? And how can we tap into the same reflective state in our daily lives?
Writing during the unprecedented period of the coronavirus pandemic and drawing on a wealth of personal stories, Ben reflects on the significance of nature to all our lives and shows us how we can benefit from living a little more wild. Drawing on his greatest adventures, he shares what his time spent in the wilderness has taught him about life. Ranging across seas, icecaps, jungles and deserts, Ben’s stories are filled with wonder and struggle, with animals, adventure, wilderness, friendships, unexpected acts of kindness and heroism, and are bursting with inspiration directly from nature. Ben’s epic stories reveal a new side to his adventures and show how everyone can find meaning in the wilderness, even if it’s just outside their front door.
Full of exciting adventures and practical guidance, this primer on positivity is a story about overcoming obstacles, surpassing your expectations and inspiring your journey of adventure.

Gargle a marble
Whilst Ben speaks as if he is trying to gargle a marble at the same time finding words to express his journey, I find I could listen to him all day long
This audible book takes on journeys he has been on before, but that matters not as they form a great 'journey'
I might even ask Ben if he will narrate my next book, although being from Durham and living in Cumbria that might not be a great fit !, as he says "how now brown cow" as I would say "Alreet Pet" !!
Love this book, so just get it, listen to it, and relax into a hot bath of stories as Ben takes you into his hot tub of adventures..........

The author is inspired in pitting himself
The author focused too much on negative: "Failure after failure" sentence is very common. I got an impression that the author is pitting himself through the book. The book is divided on chapters named after geographical physical features, which gave me a promise of clarity. However, the context is unstructured, sometimes without clear logical order, and often without chapter conclusion. I had a feeling that the author was in a hurry to write the book, and just written down all of his thoughts without trying to reorganize them.

Inspiring as the title suggests
Ben Fogle's life lessons kept me entertained during my long endurance runs. He made me challenge what is possible and think about my own struggles with materialism, environmental considerations, and what it means to grow beyond others' expectations. It is a genuine account of every person's struggle to find themselves, mature, and learn what one is made up of when they put themselves in extreme situations.
