Als die Mauer fiel, war der gebürtige Dresdner Ingo Schulze 27 Jahre alt. Er arbeitete als Dramaturg am Theater. 1993 gab er als "Wessi" zusammen mit anderen Journalisten in St. Petersburg eine Zeitung heraus und schrieb seine erste Episoden-Sammlung über seine Erfahrungen in der russischen Stadt: "33 Augenblicke des Glücks". Seit diesem Buch und seinem ersten Roman "Simple Storys" reißen die Lobeshymnen über den genauen Beobachter und lakonischen Erzähler nicht ab.
