About this listen

A stunning new mystery thriller from the debut author everyone is talking about...

Anna hasn’t set foot in Glasgow for 10 years, for very good reason. When Anna, a criminology lecturer, does return to Glasgow from Rome, during the coldest winter in memory, tragedy strikes. While out with her best friend from school, Anna has a chance encounter with a former flame, Andrew, whom she later discovers dying on a blanket of snow.

She finds herself at the centre of the investigation as the star witness and embarks on her own investigation of the case. But Anna doesn’t realise the danger she is in and soon finds herself in trouble. When another body shows up who has links to the first victim, it appears that the motive may lie buried in the past.

As Anna gets closer to the truth, the killer closes in. Can she solve the gruesome mystery before the killer strikes again?

The plot is a bit too contrived, the narrator a bit too breathy, the Glaswegianism a bit too thickly applied. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but there were times when when I couldn’t suspend disbelief, when the narrators idiosyncratic delivery got just too much.

A bit too contrived

My first from this author and starts off as a fairly typical crime story with the lead character returning to Scotland along with her backstory and emotional damage. The 5 day blood fest was perhaps a bit far fetched and there were some unnecessary "bedroom" scenes which seemed largely pointless. That said, the twists and turns were entertaining and I got through it pretty quickly.

I like Fiona McNeill's narration, and have enjoyed listening to her on other performances - quite a few mispronunciations in this one though, so perhaps not well edited. She comes into her own when things get exciting, but can be a bit staccato at other times in the story.

Not sure if this lead character is really going to be recurring in other books. Will follow the author though and see what comes next.

A lot of mispronunciation. Certain aspects of the story were a bit far fetched. Although I listened to the whole book, there were times when I thought if turning it off.
I enjoyed the Glasgow setting.

Found the frequent mispronunciation of everyday English language words very distracting and grating. I come from the west of Scotland and the local accent does not result in all these mispronunciations. Does nobody check this before publishing audio books?

Mispronunciations ruined this for me

I loved this crime thriller. Fiona mcneill was great she sucked you into the story and kept you on the edge of your seat. With all the twists and turns of the modern day crime story. I hope to listen to more from this author keep up the good work well done
