As a forensic psychiatrist, it's Dr Das' job to treat and rehabilitate what the tabloids might call the 'criminally insane', many of whom assault, rob, rape and even kill. Absorbing Narrative
This is a very engaging listen, narrated by the author Dr Sohon Das.
Alongside the fascinating case studies are personal and often very funny anecdotes chosen from different moments in his career.
I enjoyed the small details such as having to conduct important forensic assessments in cramped spaces, with makeshift tables and clanging doors.
The variety of characters, both staff and patients, is very relatable. I also appreciated the sensitivity of Dr Das’ approach when discussing his most mentally disturbed patients in the light of their shocking acts of violence.
This is a clearly written, informative and absorbing book which raises many important questions, and more importantly faces taboos head on.
Anyone with an interest in people, a thirst for knowledge and a love of detail will enjoy it.
I did notice some minor editing flaws in the audio recording, where disconnected breaths and inhalations appeared.
I also felt a bit sad to hear some cases described as banal and mundane, when the author was experiencing job dissatisfaction and wanting more excitement. I understand the context in which this was written, but I felt a bit sad for the patients or prisoners who weren’t interesting enough. Maybe I’m just being soppy!
All in all this is a brilliant book, with intriguing insights, and I definitely recommend it.

Just simply fantastic.
Brilliantly written getting the balance between educational, biographical and comical without shaming any clients. Many parts of the book had me literally laughing out loud and stitches whilst also feeling empathy too. Will definitely be recommending this to my counseller in our next session. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Fascinating deep dive into forensic psychiatry
This is a fascinating deep dive into the world of forensic psychiatry. Dr Das does an excellent job at retelling highly emotive cases with compassion and without judgement, focusing on the clinical presentation and decision - making. Anecdotes around court rooms, bureaucratic red tape and personal family, helps to paint a realistic picture of what it takes to be a forensic psychiatrist. Narrated by the author himself, Dr Das's voice is engaging and perfect to listen to during long commutes!

Excellent story and fascinating insight into medical cases
So engaging and interesting story about criminal patients who are often not fit to be tried in a courtroom. The author is straightforward and funny in his delivery- not too serious and also not too comical. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in psychology/psychiatry and crime generally. Absolutely fascinating 5*

the reality of narration was great.
This book will answer questions, open your eyes and mind and give you lessened judgementally inquired mind. Extremely interesting, a learning experience and good old honesty. Very well done Sir.

Interesting, funny, not too dark
I thought the narration was fun, and it wasn't too complicated or wordy for the layperson. some interesting cases from his perspective, factual but with his experience and opinion too. I thought it was sensitively written with a bit of humour which I think you have to have when you work in this line of work. I liked hearing a bit about him as a person as well.
