About this listen

The immersive deep dive into your immune system from the brains behind the most popular science channel on YouTube, KURZGESAGT - IN A NUTSHELL. Narrated by Steve Taylor, the unforgettable voice of Kurzgesagt videos.

You wake up and feel a tickle in your throat. Your head hurts. You're mildly annoyed as you get the kids ready for school and dress for work yourself. Meanwhile, an utterly epic war is being fought, just below your skin.
Each chapter delves deeply into an element of the immune system, including:
· Defences like antibodies and inflammation
· Threats like viruses, bacteria, allergies and cancer
· Why boosting your immune system is actually nonsense
· How parasites sneak their way past your body's defences
· How viruses - including the coronavirus - work
· What goes on in your wounds when you cut yourself

So what, exactly, IS your immune system? Second only to the human brain in its complexity, it is one of the oldest and most critical facets of life on Earth. Without it, you would die within days. Immune takes readers on a journey through the fortress of the human body and its defences. There is a constant battle of staggering scale raging within us, full of stories of invasion, strategy, defeat, and noble self-sacrifice. In fact, in the time you've been reading this, your immune system has probably identified and eradicated a cancer cell that started to grow in your body.

Immune turns one of the most intricate and confusing subjects - immunology - into a gripping adventure. Challenging what you know and think about your own body Immune is a vital and remarkably fun crash course in what is arguably, and increasingly, the most important system in the body.

It’s great, I liked how it simplified in the right places and used good analogies. Thanks for making me understand my body better. Thanks to everyone that made this book.

Devoured this audio book in 2 days, really enjoyable. I wish this book existed when I was at uni as it explains very complex topics in a way that is so easy to understand. My only complaint is that I want more, please write Immune 2.0.
Thank you

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I was guided from knowing basically nothing about the immune system to a point where I I feel that I have a basic understanding of the amazing biology that keeps you alive. Great narration and written with a sense of humour. I’ll definitely listen to this again at some point. Thank you to the whole team behind this audiobook.

Incredible journey.

This is probably the best narrator I’ve come across. His enthusiasm drew me in and I wanted to know more and more. The book is very well written for people who don’t have a massive scientific background. Some of the analogies are also very clever to help break things down into understandable chunks. Also, this subject is fascinating. My appreciation of the immune system has short up and I’ve even started to make improvements in my own life to become healthier and more active.

A brilliantly narrated and fascinating insight into the human immune system.

I never realised just how complex the immune system was until i read this book. A facinating read, kudos to everyone who works in this field, fighting the good fight.

Mind blowing!
