About this listen
Forget your old name. Forget your parents." These are the things Euphrosyne’s grandparents and counselor tell her. But if Orthodox Christianity is a lie, why did the icon so dramatically save her life? And what can she do to get the icon back? In a post-Christian America, where going to church, praying, or owning holy things means death, a 12-year-old girl searches for the truth. Finding it may cost her everything.
©2017 Georgia Briggs (P)2021 Georgia BriggsIt certainly has parallels with 1984. Instead of the middle-aged Winston Smith you have a 12 year old
girl. In a way it doesn't matter about age or gender as anyone and everyone is vulnerable when a society starts monitoring you. In our country where free speech came to an end some years ago it certainly resonates.
Orwell had 'Big Brother', the thought police and the twisting of language to control minds, Georgia Briggs has the 'Age of Tolerance'. I really enjoyed it and I'm in my fifties. The narration was very good and I liked the occasional singing. 1984 is a classic of course but one area Icon edges it for me was the end. George Orwell did a brilliant job but 1984 had no way out for Winston but Icon...well find out for yourself!
Orthodox Christianity meets Orwell's 1984 !
