Summary

'From the first time I saw them together I knew it felt wrong. I didn't like the way he touched her or the self-conscious way he played with Molly and Luke. Joanne saw none of it of course. So I did it to prove to her that she was wrong. I did it for us.'

Emily's instincts tell her that best friend Joanne's new boyfriend is bad news. Emily fears for Joanne. Fears for Joanne's children. But Joanne won't listen because she's in love. So Emily watches and waits...and then she makes a choice. But Emily has a past, and secrets, too. And is she really as good a friend to Joanne as she claims?

Excellent thriller with a twist.

Thoroughly enjoyable story that had you gripped to the end. A theme that tugged at emotions. Very enjoyable and well performed.

An enjoyable thriller

With a twist...

Something different from the Gary Goodhew author, still based around Cambridge and the outer reaches. Good story, good twist but I do love a Gary Goodhew novel!

What a let down

It started off so interesting then just got super lazy. Characters weren't developed enough to care about them, ending was awful. Just ridiculous. Performance was good. I stuck with it because of that but everything else was awful.

Over complicated plot

I generally love Alison Bruce’s work and her Cambridge set detective series is brilliant but this felt distinctly over complicated. The end, when mercifully it came, was no great shakes and by that point I think I’d lost interest. I also had little sympathy with the characters, particularly the main one. Her actions seemed wholly unlikely and I just kept wanting to scream at her to get a move on and get a life.

A little slow, but a good read

I enjoyed this book. I loved the start and the end, but did find the middle was slow. A little drawn out. However the characters were good, the story gripping ( perhaps a tiny bit unbelievable) and the narration superb. I would recommend and would read other books by this author.

I Did It For Us

I loved this, the narrator does a perfect job of portraying the different characters, in a believable realistic style. The story is also completely believable and gripping with a really satisfying conclusion, definitely would recommend this one.

Boring and slow story.

Struggled to get to the end of the book. I found it boring and slow.

It Didn't Do It For Me

What would have made I Did It for Us better?

Fewer pages.

Would you ever listen to anything by Alison Bruce again?

Possibly not.

How could the performance have been better?

If the narrator hadn't read everything as a massive drama... it wasn't.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Boredom.

Any additional comments?

I thought this would be a great listen, however, it started well, got staid in the middle, and became totally ridiculous at the end.
