About this listen

Human, Flawed, Forgiven is a transformative guide that explores the complex journey of forgiveness for one's parents. The narrative is structured to help listeners understand that while parents are inherently flawed—as all humans are—holding onto anger and blame is a self-imposed burden that serves no purpose. It emphasizes that forgiveness is a gift one gives to oneself, a crucial step toward healing and building a healthier, happier life.

Through personal anecdotes, psychological insights, and practical advice, Geis navigates the listener through the powerful process of shifting outward blame toward inward responsibility. The book posits that forgiveness is an internal process, one that does not require the participation or even awareness of the person being forgiven. It's a powerful reminder that we have the strength and the right to choose forgiveness at any moment, for our own sake, and to live life to its fullest, free from the past.

On the plus side, the book is practical and offers clear steps for working through complex emotions. It’s not just about "forgiving and forgetting," but about making space for healing. The narrative is gentle, yet impactful, and the message is empowering—it's about reclaiming your happiness, no matter your past.

That said, some may find the pacing a little slow at times. There’s a lot of repetition in terms of key messages, which might feel a bit redundant if you’re already familiar with the concept of forgiveness. Still, for anyone struggling with unresolved issues in their relationship with their parents, this book offers valuable insight and could be a comforting guide toward emotional freedom.

I have been really unhappy for all of my adult life because of how much I've struggled with abandonment by my parents. This book was a tremendous help in my process of learning to forgive and heal from those resentments. It was very easy to follow because the author doesn’t just give advice – she also shares her own emotional process and struggles. The book had some very insightful and practical advice about different ways to forgive and let go of unresolved feelings of anger and resentment toward parents. The stories that she shared often mirrored my own internal dialogue so much that it really validated what I was going through, and gave me a new tool to show how I might grow and heal from these hurts. The book was about forgiving myself, not just forgiving them from my perspective. If you are trying to find a more compassionate voice within yourself to help guide you through the process of letting go of unresolved feelings of hurt or resentment that you feel toward your parents, then I highly recommend this book.
