About this listen
A lesbian romance filled with intrigue and sizzling sexual tension as enemies discover that the other side of hatred . . . is desire.
Agnes Noble is private, mysterious, and untouchable. She rules House of Agnes, the most exclusive escort agency on the East Coast, with a diamond fist. Crossing her is a mistake no one makes twice.
Investigative reporter Lola Osbourne is not afraid. She's gunning for the House and its so-called queen. She'll make sure no other innocent gets dragged into Agnes's alluring web, to be used and discarded the way Lola's sister was.
But her plan to get close to the elusive madam shatters the moment her eyes meet the Queen's. One look and everything's different. More complicated. Dangerous.
Now, Lola's not just fighting to topple a queen from her throne, she's also scrambling to escape their explosive collision with her suddenly vulnerable heart intact.
Contains mature themes.

I don’t usually like a crime mystery type sapphic book, but this one is fantastic. The characters and their interactions are so well created that it alleviates a lot of the tension I don’t like in these kinds of novels.
Age-gap, ice queen, secret identity.
The author has taken the crime genre and made something beautiful. Zedde’s characters feel realistic. Genuine and flawed. The relationships between characters flow easily, even side characters. The sexual tension between the main characters is crafted well and leaves you wanting more. Very frustrating in the best way!
Highly recommend this book/audiobook. I’m off to add more of this authors stuff to my TBR list.
Loved it

This was an audiobook of firsts for me. 1st Fiona Zedde book & first Mari narration. The firsts for each person were good enough that I'd listen or read their other work, but wasn't blown away either.
Storyline wise, I liked the concept, it had a few twists & turns, albeit predictable ones, that made me want to keep listening. The main characters felt complex, it was spicy & I was mostly invested in their story. However, I felt like the flow wasn't quite right. It felt like a slow-burn to explosion & not necessarily in a good way. I felt like it needed at the very least an epilogue to tie things up in a more organic way, than the abrupt way it ended. It was so abrupt in fact, I felt low-key angry & disappointed. I was asking myself "is that it?". There maybe a sequal or a novella somewhere, I don't know, but because of the slap to the face the ending caused me to feel, I'm not overly bothered about finding it.
Narration was decent. Mari isn't the best narrator I've ever heard, but she definitely isn't the worst. Her accents were consistent, but her dialect & "character voices" weren't overly distinctive & at times I got confused as to whom was speaking. Overall though, I felt like she added enough to the audiobook that I kept listening.
Pretty good, but wasn't blown away
