About this listen

Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring wardrobes, shattered Brooka glassware, and vandalized Liripip sofa beds—clearly someone, or something, is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five young employees volunteer for a long dusk-till-dawn shift and encounter horrors that defy imagination. Along the way, author Grady Hendrix infuses sly social commentary on the nature of work in the new 21st-century economy.

A traditional haunted house story in a contemporary setting, and full of current fears, Horrorstör delivers a high-concept premise in a unique style.

Really Enjoyable Story

Poorly narrated, cliché obvious teen movie fodder.
Boring, not scary to anyone over eight years old.

Trite crap.

loved this one! story was interesting and had its more unpleasant moments and imagery. scratched my horror itch. Kept its pace and didn't peter out, certainly didn't waffle on.

Excellent story

Brilliant stuff. Atmospheric, sufficiently creepy with loads of humour and insightful remarks. Would definitely recommend.

Not usually an horror fan, I just loved the funny, creepy Horrorstor and all that went on inside.
Readers are introduced to Orsk, a furniture store in Cleveland built on the Ikea p!an but with cheaper products. We are walked along the Bright and Shiny Path, meeting the different departments and some of the people who work there, in particular the disillusioned and angsty Amy and her nerdy boss, Basil, who lives and breathes his store responsibility. Initially hilarious, with Orsk adverts leading into each chapter, it slowly becomes more sinister until absolute mayhem occurs. The characterizations is good, some of the best given the nature of the book, and the storytelling is very visual running like a film through the mind - n fact it could make a fine movie - and the ending was very satisfying.

Narration was good, the main protagonist giving her opinions and thoughts from the offset with excellent effect performed by Tai Simmons, and the introductory adverts were spoken with good effect by Bronson Pincho. Both added much to the enjoyment of the book. There is also a pdf download available from the product page: that's fun, too.

Altogether a fun and very enjoyable six hours or so of clever writing and creepy horror - both from the store concept and those things that go bump in the night. Definitely recommended, especially as it is currently available for free through the Audible Plus programme.
