It’s perfect

Strong overview; swift but informative. Uses largely America's own sources to show the role they played, of which he is rightly critical, yet also is honest about the challenges the Cuban revolution has not overcome.

Buy this book

I found this to be an interesting, quick review of Cuban history. The author does really seem to try to be even handed in what is obviously a political minefield. Worth reading for background on Cuba, if you are otherwise unfamiliar with that tragic nation.

This is an amazing book

Absorbing the experience of being part of the Cuban revolution, hanging with Fidel and Che and the women they loved, tasting the food they concocted from what they could buy from grateful villagers, smell the tropical rain.... This is a book that pulses and breathes with unexpected insight, humor, and erudition.recommend it highly enough.

FANTASTIC history book

Captivating History's book is a fantastic and well-sourced overview of the revolution. A really fascinating book.
Good overall look at history or Cuban revolution - felt a little redundant at times.

Excellent book. Well written

It's a pretty fun story, all together. It's the island where Christopher Columbus landed and the most troublesome, colonially.

Very informative without being boring

A balanced, insightful analysis of the revolution that marked the 20th century, a revolution that showed the world that an alternative way of living is possible.

Another angle on Cuban history

Really well written and approachable book. The author treated the subject for the most part neutrally and connected many of the subjects covered. The only real short fall is that it was short, wish it had a larger and deeper exploration of the subject by the author but as an introductory book into the subject it makes sense and excels at it.

Enjoyable concise

I find with books like these that I sometimes have trouble keeping track of all of people mentioned, but the author wrote in such a way that each character stood out. Also, I loved the way the author reviewed Cuba’s history in the early part of the book, giving enough detail to set context but not slowing the book down with too much detail.

This is good book which I highly recommend

A Captivating gives the listner an insight as to why the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro, et al came about and is an informative example of the American cancer of greed and the influence of money and power over people and governments. The evil and corrupt Batista regime being yet again another instance of the historical US willingness to openly support such despots and tyrants purely for self-interest. This is good book which I highly recommend.

Fascinating story

I always wondered what happened in Cuba before Castro, and this was a very enlightening story, written very exactly about the mobsters and the stars who were involved in making Cuba an early, "Las Vegas"-more of a dishonest one, albeit.

Great overview of the era

Interesting way to find out about the mob in Cuba and the connection to the Revolution. I have traveled several places in Cuba and the book seems to be pretty close to accurate to place and events. Once you start reading you can't put it down.

Excellent in depth study of Che & Fidel

The stories here are fantastic, and sound like they're out of a Hollywood movie. A lot of names are thrown around, and initially it's difficult to grasp who's doing what, but by the middle of the book, I was able to understand and keep clear who these mobsters were.
