Recommended

This book offers strong opinions, particularly with regards to America’s interventions in Cuba before and after the Castro revolution.Other than that, a FANTASTIC history book. Very recommendable for anyone studying Cuba.

It’s perfect

Strong overview; swift but informative. Uses largely America's own sources to show the role they played, of which he is rightly critical, yet also is honest about the challenges the Cuban revolution has not overcome.

FANTASTIC history book

Captivating History's book is a fantastic and well-sourced overview of the revolution. A really fascinating book.
Good overall look at history or Cuban revolution - felt a little redundant at times.

Excellent book. Well written

It's a pretty fun story, all together. It's the island where Christopher Columbus landed and the most troublesome, colonially.

Another angle on Cuban history

Really well written and approachable book. The author treated the subject for the most part neutrally and connected many of the subjects covered. The only real short fall is that it was short, wish it had a larger and deeper exploration of the subject by the author but as an introductory book into the subject it makes sense and excels at it.

Well organized book

Considering the tangled history of Cuba, this is an overview that gives the reader a much better understanding. While in Captivating History format it's easy to get an understanding of how we got to today.

Absolutely loved this book!

If you read this book knowing the full backdrop, I think it will give the information more substance. It will explain how Castro was so successful in overthrowing the corrupt government, ousting the mob, and most of all, why the people of Cuba back him and he is still their hero.

A progressive socialist bent on Cuban History

Good overview, with a clear progressive bent. Castro was NOT a good guy. And the bias lavished on Obama & disdain for Trump is clear. Cuba is an island country that has been abused and will continue to be abused by those in power or hungering for power is clear, but it should and always be an example of the clear and utter failure of Socialism. As evidenced once again by Venezuela. History can be a warning to those wise and humble enough to hear, however young idealists will continue to point to Cuba as a panacea and the US is currently on track for correction. Let’s hope the idealist actually read history without rose colored glasses. America had the only truly successful revolution. -Because God was involved.

A good quick History of Cuba

My only complaint about the book is the somewhat neutral stance that book takes on Guevara and Castro. Both executed many that opposed them. Guevara was especially ruthless. Not a good person by any stretch.

This is good book which I highly recommend

A Captivating gives the listner an insight as to why the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro, et al came about and is an informative example of the American cancer of greed and the influence of money and power over people and governments. The evil and corrupt Batista regime being yet again another instance of the historical US willingness to openly support such despots and tyrants purely for self-interest. This is good book which I highly recommend.

I’ll try to avoid Spanish stories with Spanish names narrated by someone not entirely bilingual…

The narrator’s pronunciation of names in Spanish, specially indigenous names is terrible…I’d love to listen to this book in Spanish but it’s not available…

Piqued my curiosity

This is a briskly paced saga of courage, fierce spirit, and colorful characters. I was a little put off by the narrator's deep, gravelly voice at first, but soon grew accustomed to it. Others will find it appealing, I'm sure.
