About this listen

What would have happened if Jane had been born male?

James Bennet is the perfect heir to Longbourn. He is always looking out for his sisters and mother, making sure they have the opportunity to receive proper education, and always making sure they have the guidance and direction they need. He purchased a small cottage to ensure that his mother and sisters had somewhere to live in the event that something happened to him and his father. He works tirelessly on the estate to ensure that Longbourn is profitable. He puts any additional money that comes into the estate towards ensuring that his sisters have dowries that are appropriate for their social standing.

The summer before the story began, James had done the Darcy family a great service, almost certainly keeping Georgiana from ruin. Between the debt owed to the Bennets and the younger girls being away at school, Darcy's objections to the Bennets are greatly lessened. Despite the divide in their social standing, the Darcys and the Bennets find themselves drawn to each other. Yet, given their differing situations, can their connection ever become deeper than just friendship?

Excellent book excellent narrator makes for an enjoyable audio time.
There is so much to keep you engaged in this story...soooo good!
As it mentions in the title there is no Jane but a great elder brother who brings a lot to the story
The Bennet's are a happy family with a few surprises in it. Whickham is dealt with quiet quickly BUT we do have other very unsavoury character.

I have listened to it a few times and each time I am engaged in the story with the narrator bringing it to life.
Highly recommend!

Very interesting book I SO enjoyed it!

Brilliant idea that Jane was born male.
However, the impression I got was that the author had eleventy million ideas and tried to put them into one book. As a result, there was too many plots that were not fleshed out and followed through properly.
Have to say this is a huge pity as all the ideas or subplots were very interesting and could have been the main plot of many books. There were some parts that were hugely unnecessary and frankly,
I found one quite insulting - implying that Elizabeth's stance on something was solely because her period was due. Suppose it was put in to show how understanding Darcy was but in my opinion it just showed how dismissive he was and how Elizabeth's opinion was blamed on hormones alone.
The author could have created a series of at least five books of all the sub plots in this book and all of them would have been better then this one.

Good idea but...
