NOW A NO.1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Michael Mann, Oscar-nominated filmmaker and writer-director of Heat and Miami Vice, teams up with Meg Gardiner to deliver Mann’s first crime novel, an explosive return to the world and characters of his classic film Heat – an all-new story that illuminates what happened before and after the film.

A Times Book of the Year 2022

‘Michael Mann’s HEAT is one of my all-time favourite movies. HEAT 2 is now one of my favourite suspense novels’ JAMES PATTERSON

Described by Michael Mann as both a prequel and sequel to the renowned, critically acclaimed film of the same name, HEAT 2 covers the formative years of homicide detective Vincent Hanna (Oscar winner Al Pacino) and elite criminals Neil McCauley (Oscar winner Robert De Niro), Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer), and Nate (Oscar winner Jon Voight), and features the same extraordinary ambition, scope, rich characterizations, and attention to detail as the epic film.

This new story leads up to the events of the film and then moves beyond it, featuring new characters on both sides of the law, new high-line heists, and breathtakingly cinematic action sequences. Ranging from the streets of L.A. to the inner sancta of rival Taiwanese crime syndicates in Paraguay to a massive drug cartel money-laundering operation just over the border in Mexico, HEAT 2 illuminates the dangerous workings of international crime organizations and the agents who pursue them as it provides a full-blooded portrait of the men and women who inhabit both worlds.

Operatic in scope, HEAT 2 is engrossing, moving, and tragic – a masterpiece of crime fiction from one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers in American cinema.

kinda weird the way it fits together....almost like those tv series where they realise they don't have enough in the can to make it good....so they dick around with the time lines to be mysterious so yeah that...but its fun, could be a better movie.....so yeah, fan of the movie dive in!

Absolutely brilliant.

Great listen- interesting structure and story, expands on the original characters in a way they come across fully realised and believable individuals, flaws and all. I loved the book start to finish. The only minor criticism I had was some of the violence was quite graphic, more so than the original movie was. I found some of it a bit much, but this was more of a personal preference. Excellent - get it now!

Ps the narrator is AMAZING.

Amazing. Double amazing if you’ve seen the origins movie.

At first I couldn’t get past the narrator’s voice. However after a few chapters it had grown on me and by the end I was totally sold on him being the perfect choice. All of his voices/impressions of characters/actors historic and new were fantastic and breathed life into the book.

The plot was fantastic and extremely detailed, as you would expect from a Mann project.
As a huge Hesr fanatic, I got just what I was hoping for in terms of back story and continuations for the characters we all know and “love” from the film. What I wasn’t expecting so much but was equally fond of was the quality of fiction involving characters previously unknown to us the audience.

Wardell seems to make Waingro look like a doggy you could get killed walking in comparison.

This new work from Mann adds even more depth to the original film when rewatching it since. It would of course be incredible to have a film production of Heat 2, however given the fact that it would be impossible to have the right actors at the right ages, I’ll take this offering with immense satisfaction.
I’m extremely grateful that this fantastically crafted prequel/sequel enabled me to play out the movie that could have been, in my mind. Bringing ‘90s Pacino, Kilmer, De Niro et al. back to life within the landscapes and city scapes of the mid west, south west and far beyond, this was some ride!

Thank you Michael Mann. What an absolute delight it was to suddenly receive this gift of a novel after 27 years of marvelling at one of the greatest films ever made.

The action truly was the juice.
