I enjoyed learning about the cultural background behind the practices. It made the guidance feel richer and more grounded. The explanations were clear and respectful. I’ve struggled with pain for years, and this is the first time a wellness book helped me feel more connected to myself instead of overwhelmed.

I'm a pretty practical person and wouldn't normally pick up something like this. Chronic migraines for fifteen years made me desperate enough to try anything. The audiobook does a good job explaining Yoruba traditions without being preachy or weird about it. The emphasis on community and connection resonated with me—I'd been isolating because of my pain. I joined an online group focused on holistic pain management and that alone has helped. Some of the specific practices have become part of my toolkit. Not everything applied to my situation, but enough did that I'm glad I gave it a chance.

Chronic pain makes you bitter. It just does. This book addresses that emotional heavy lifting. The rituals for releasing negative energy were exactly what I needed. I didn't realize how much tension I was holding in my shoulders just from being mad at my situation.
Doing the specific prayers for release helped me cry it out and let it go. My physical pain actually lessened after I dealt with the emotional backlog. It showed me that the mind and body are definitely connected. If you are carrying a lot of resentment about your health, this is a safe way to work through it.

Finally released the anger I was holding

I have always been into gardening, so the herbal knowledge here was right up my alley. It goes beyond just "this plant does X." It explains the spiritual energy of the plants and how they interact with us.

I started using some of the suggestions for baths and poultices. There is something very soothing about using nature to heal. It feels ancient and right. My joint stiffness definitely responds well to the warm herbal soaks recommended in the middle chapters.

The section on sacred herbs was fascinating

I've had chronic pain from a car accident for almost a decade. Doctors focused on my back, physical therapists focused on my muscles, but no one ever talked about how the pain was affecting me mentally and spiritually. This audiobook introduced me to Yoruba practices that consider all of those pieces together. The rituals gave me something to focus on beyond just "manage the pain." I started incorporating the morning prayers and some of the herbal recommendations into my routine. I can't say I'm pain-free, but I feel less consumed by it. The personal stories from others dealing with similar struggles were encouraging. I also appreciated the sections on cultural sensitivity—I wanted to make sure I was approaching this respectfully. If you've tried everything conventional medicine offers and still feel like something's missing, this might fill that gap.

This approach finally addressed the whole picture
